Cobh Ramblers 0 - 2 Limerick

No disputing the result at St.Comlan's Park tonight as Limerick FC walked away with all three points in a very tough and agressive battle as it was clearly evident that they were here to claim their first A Chaimpionsip Group 2 points of the season. Ramblers started the match brightly and had a couple of chances throug Pierce Donnachie and Jonathan Spillane with only ten minutes gone.

Ramblers had another great opportunity when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box after twenty five minutes when the Limerick keeper David Quinn raced out from his goalmouth to handle the ball outside of the box. Referee Graham Kelly awarded the kick instantly and the Limerick goal-stopper was given the yellow. Johnaton Spillane drilled a rocket of a shot low past the wall but David Quinn was alert and collected the ball without any trouble.

Limerick took the lead four minutes before the break, as defender Nigel Stanley rose above the Ramblers defence to head home an in-swinger from the left side that left Ramblers' keeper Kevin McCarthy with no chance. Ramblers could however have equalised just before the break as Pierce Donnachie went one-on-one with the keeper but the very agile David Quinn was equal to Donnachie's effort.

Former Ramblers promotion winning side player Kieran O'Rielly made his return to the side this evening after a long absence through injury and the experience could be just what Ramblers are looking for. Also returning to Ramblers was goalkeeper Stephen Deasy who remained on the bench for this one.

The second half started with Limerick detremined to add to their score, and they did just that through substitute Cillian O'Connor who had only replaced Ian Moore fifteen minutes earlier. O'Connor found himself umarked inside the box and had no rouble slotting home high into the net. Limerick could have went three up in the last minute if it were not for a superb save from Kevin McCarthy.

Ramblers now slip to second in the league on nine points as St. Pat's beat Bray Wanderers 2-0 away and move to the top on twelve ponits from five games. The immediate four teams below Ramblers all have six points but also have games in hand.
