Got a letter in the post as a block booker about the FAI's proposal for a season ticket system swipe card. You get a discount on the price of a ticket but bdo not receive any ticket but swipe in at the gate. You would want to be pretty sure that you can attend all games otherwise you are giving your swipe card to friends to use at matches you cant make.
what do people think.
Mods If you feel this should be in the fans forum please feel free to move

Good idea to me. Saves on admin/postage for them which soon adds up for 50,000 people.

Only arrived this morning in work, deadline is Monday. The FAI like to keep the timeframe easy for fans anyway ............

Good idea as far as I'm concerned, but deadline is tight alright. I spoke with ticket office this morning & told them I'm in, just in case the post is late.

Sounds about right, as in their ridiculous timeframe, and of course consulatation with the hapless punters.
A good idea in principle, but adminstered in the usual half-arsed way.....

they are usually accommodating for returns that are late but not too late. fai ticket office is generally very well run and very reasonable in my experience

Agreed. If there is one area where the FAI are superior than other sporting organisations in this country, its ticketing. Better pricing, better allocation and run better overall.
Sounds like a good scheme for ye BBers; of course it will affect those BBers that tend to only go to the bigger games. Not so easy to give a swipe card for a game and get it back. A good development imo.
Still no word on what will happen with the excess Vantage club tickets. Hopefully some good news to come for us WLers.

i had 4 block booked tickets for croke park but have now been told there is no room at the inn in the new landsowne. very disappointing
the season ticket arrangement seems to be imitating the big premiership clubs. my brother has 2 man united season tickets and they are like credit cards. you swipe over a scanner to get admittance.
i know liverpool operate the same system for their season ticket holders and it works well.
given the fact you need to get the card back from the person who uses it (assuming you dont use it personally) it significantly narrows the scope for profiteering/touting compared with paper ticket arrangements

Is the season ticket (swipe card) transferable?
I know Man U clamped down on it last season and only allowed the card holder entry with photo id.

I don't think I'm going to go with the Season Ticket option. I have a similar Fancard with Liverpool and it's a right pain in the arse having to post it and wait to receive it back when you sell games on that you cannot attend. I'll be going to all the competitive games but friendlies for me are mainly a waste of time and money. I want to be able to have the option of selling my friendly tickets, so I won't be choosing the Season Ticket for that reason. I'd advise anyone in a similar position to do the same.

It may surprise your average Ireland fan, but Shamrock Rovers also operate this credit card system for season tickets.

Is it optional then? i.e. you can choose to still receive paper tickets?

As do Cork (from a Cork Company too; http://www.ticketscan.org/)
And of course its been common in Europe for nearly a decade now

Yeah, you can still get your tickets by the old system as well if you want.

Only got mine today for some reason - gotta post it straight off as a result!
Seems that the East stands - upper and lower are reserved for season ticket holders. This would suggest that the rest of the BB-ers are to be given the less desirable seats behind the goal.

And what about the West Stand? Aren't they for BB's too?

Yeah sorry - i meant south and west stands. Might be worthwhile requesting a West Stand seat if possible.

presumably you were a BB Waiting list member like lots of the rest of us in which case we were never expecting seats in lansdowne.
There will also be an allocation of season tickets in the South terrace for the Singing section.
Applications open to all so gety on it asap

Any idea what the pricing structure will be for the new Lansdowne? Cheapest tickets? No doubt we will have aplethora of meaningless friendlies as in the Brian Kerr era to line the pockets of Delaney and Co......
harps1954

€50 for all upper tiers
€50 lower tiers in North/South Stand.
€70 for lower tiers in East West Stand.
I think the €50 tickets are €40 for friendlies and the €70 tickets are €55 for friendlies.
As a block booker / season ticket holder, you must take tickets for all games.
In the 2010/11 season, starting with the Argentina game, there are nine matches at Lansdowne next season - 3 are competitive, 3 are friendles and 3 are the 4-Nations Cup (glorified friendlies). So, if you are a block booker, you will have to buy tickets for all 9 games.

Yep, I got the invoice by email today as well but the website is giving problems again and I can't logon to pay. Have sent them an email but this seems to be a recurring problem on the first day each invoice is sent out.

Has anyone's tickets arrived yet? I'm a bit worried mine might be late for Argie game (post to the UK is erratic!).

Mine hasn't arrived yet but some of the Irish based poster have started to receive them. DHL are used by FAI for the UK deliveries. I'm hoping we'll get them by Monday or else it's panic time!

On that other site there is talk of them being collected in the Berkley on the day of the game.

Mine just arrived - just regular paper tickets. I suppose the swipe cards are available later.
