...but it was poor. OK, we could have been three up at half time but if Athlone had anything about them at all we could have had a difficult night. The quality of our bench was exposed tonight and Gary McCabe may be a luxury we can ill afford. John Dillon continues to improve an we're in the hat for the next round but we'll need to be a lot better on Tuesday in Belfield.

Speaking of McCabe.....this is interesting!

Dundee United are to sign Padraig Amond from Sligo Rovers as a replacement for David Goodwillie who will sign for Rangers to replace Kris Boyd. Amond is currently the top scorer in the league with 9 goals in 15 games. Dundee United will also swoop for Gary McCabe, a left winger also from Sligo for combined fee of £100,000.

Job done. Thats about all that can be said about tonights game. Probably was always going to be a bit difficult following on from recent results, we all kinda expected another goal fest.

Think the Marshall substitution was very poor. The lad came on, and in fairness was putting some very good crosses into the box.
Thought he should have been given more of the ball.

Thought Cook was right to take McCabe off. He needs to calm down, has the makings of a good player but needs to control his temperament.

Foran was average, Dillon was in and out of the game. Ndo was average. Russell was good, as was Ryan. And whats the story with hoofing high balls up to Amond, he is never going to win them against big centre backs, thought he looked injured and a bit off the pace.

Dont know if id pass much heed of that.

The way Amond is playing at the moment he could be worth more than 100,000 to us in the long run especialy as we have no backup. Europe, FAI, EA Cup etc. If we sell him our season would be over.
As for McCabe, a rough diamond with massive potential.

I think they would do well in the SPL however.

Ya poor enough performance but I have too many times been at matches where Rovers were by far the better team and lost, so I will take a poor performance and the win anytime. I am sure Tuesday night was in the mind of the manager if not one or two of the players. Looking forward to Tuesday night and I think our experience can see us through, although admitting UCD are a very young free flowing team.
