The recent message complaining about Ref O'Neill got me thinkin, why after every match don't we give the Referee (and perhaps his officials) a Match Performanc Rating out of 10 - for Decision Making,Co-existance with players and Managers,Use of linesmen/women (+4th official), Allowing the game to flow,Card use,Whistle happy,Attention seeking... etc.etc. -

For it to work you cant just mark the ref bad just cause he gave the opponents a peno (if it actually was a peno) and it cost Ur team points.

After people are finished rating the ref's performance we can can sum up the marks outta 10 and get his/her's (the Ref's) average mark- at the end of the season we will know who the leagues best and worst ref is. (P.S. you must attend the match to Rate The Ref!!)

I suggest we give this a trial run over the next few weaks to see how it works.
What do ye'all think?

Alright, not a bad idea. Though expect to see a winning team's fans give higher marks than a losing team's fans!

Ref today wasn't bad (UCD - Galway) - much better than the first two we've had. Two red cards - one for a second yellow (didn't see much of either tackle to comment really), one for a cynical tackle which deserved the red. Most offsides seemed correct, very few dodgy decisions overall - give him an 8. Make up for the 6 and the 4 for the first two!

Cheers for the response but it does'nt look like enough people are keen enough on the idea for it to work, for what it's worth the ref at the Kilkennt game did'nt have much to do and only made one bad desicion, booking a player a bit rashly, so I'd give him(Tom Connolly) 5+1/2.
