Goal in injury time gave Wexford all three points in sunny Ferrycarrig this afternoon in entertaining match in which both sides were better going forward than defending. Had end of season feel to it, I thought. With Anto and Jimmy still away, Wexford started with Packie, Wolfie, Chris, Breener, Dean, Muzzi, Shane D., Patsy, Kevin and Gary and Danny up front. Mervue started the brighter and got an early penalty when a ball jumped up again to hit a Wexford arm in the box and Packie got a hand to the peno but couldn't keep it out. Mervue should have gone two up when a through ball found the Mervue forward in the clear but Packie got an outstretched foot to the ball as the forward tried to round him. Wexford then equalised when a through ball found Danny in the clear and he tucked it away nicely for one-one. He had previously been just offside in a similar move. Mervue then went ahead when a simple cross to the far post found two of their forwards in the clear and a neat volley gave Packie no chance. Meanwhile, Gary was doing fierce damage on their right-hand side but half-time came at one-two.

Another chance fell to Mervue early in the second half when their winger tore the Wexford left-defence apart but the Mervue midfielder tucked the low cross over the bar when it looked easier to score. Wexford then had two goals disallowed for offside and, as Mervue tired or retreated into their shell, got the equaliser when a cross found Dean wide left whose header found Shane Sinnott clear in the box and he slotted it away low left for two-two. Wexford were now on the up and in the last minute or two, Danny turned their defence on the left , knocked the ball low into the box and a step-over left the ball running clear to Shane Dempsey who drilled it low left for the winner. Plenty of other half-chances for both sides as well where both defences seemed to be all over the place. Only sub. for Wexford was Shane S. after about an hour for Muzzi who had a quiet game after his excellent half last week.

did not play well today but still came away with all 3 points. by the end of the game kevin rowe was out on his feet. i thought deano got showed up a few times at left back today i still believe more suited to the left wing rather than left back. maybe if rumours about JFOC coming back are true. I agree about muzzi but must be remembered at underage level him (and rowe) where strikers so playing in different positions than what used to and not doing a bad job. I still believe we would be better with rowe or muzzi up front to win headers for danny and put garry on the wing. danny and garry IMO are to similar in there style or play to work as a high scoring partnership.
on a sad note farewell to pasty thanks for everything
