Hard to know where to begin on eventful night in Tolka when 90 minutes of pure effort dug out a great three points for the Youths in a match which had a touch of two differing halves. However, Shels will be wondering how they only managed an og with the chances they created. With Anto and Jimmy missing, Noel put Chris Kenny in at centre-half and John Byrne wide right with Packie, Wolfie, Breener, Chris, Dean, John, Shane, Patsy, Kevin and Danny and Gary up front. Shels started the brighter and with neat triangles down the right and a tasty left-full soon were causing Wexford problems and Chris planted a header against his own cross-bar early on when turned by a cross. Packie then pushed a looping header against the post. However, best chance of the half fell to Gary who got the other side of the Shels defender but slightly dragged his shot wide when one-on-one. Shels then scored when Shane took a left-footed swish at an inswinging free-kick and planted it past Packie for one-nil to Shels at half-time.

Wexford brought on Muzzi for John at half-time and it immediately provided dividends as the ball was more frequently falling between the Shels keeper and the weakest part of their team, the middle of the defence. Youths equaliser came from this when one Shels defender smacked a clearance against another defender leaving Gary to round the keeper and dink it goalwards for Danny to head home but who got blatantly shoved over in the process. Yellow for Shels defender (should have been red) and penalty taken by Breener who smacked it straight down the middle for one-one. Shels then got a penalty to go ahead when the ball jumped up and hit Dean on the arm but Packie saved well to his left from the spot-kick which was hit well but at that waist height which always gives keepers a chance. Turning point of the game in my view. Shels then had two more efforts which hit the cross-bar and post but then had a defender sent off when Danny got goal-side but was pulled back. Shane then made up for his earlier error from another free-kick which was hit low and bounced just at the Shels keeper's dive and went straight in. Shels tried to get equaliser with the ten men but Youths could smell victory and kept them out. Couldn't pick anyone out in huge night of hard graft all over the pitch. Other late sub. was Shane Sinnott.

Great result, I thing that's the first time I've missed a Youths game in Tolka, never copped it until it was too late.
