what were dundalk players sent off for

1st - Mcguigan lunged on Bermingham
2nd - Apparently Melligan gestured to the Pats fans
3rd - I didn't see but I heard Breen might have kicked out/stamped at a Pats player

Not 100% sure on the 2nd and 3rd though.

Absoulutely gutted we conceded so late, deserved to get a draw for the way we defended all things considered.

Would have given my left leg for Mervue to beat Fingal purely from an underdog point of view.....nothing to do with last year at all!!

Thought the first sending off was a bit harsh, the challenge by the bohs lad away to Pats a few weeks ago shown on MNS where he only got a yellow was far worse that this. Melligan deserved his, Breen pure lazy challenge in the last min. Fantastic defending for the last 43 mins with 9 men.

Thought Pats were very very fortunate to leave with a win, a draw would have been a fair result. I didnt see much in their overall play to impress me I have to say, they looked a fairly ordinary side.

Still , good luck in the cup, one less distraction for us in the summer !

And last year it was all Sean Connor's fault...

It seems Dundalk are just scum... Who'd have thought!? ;)

These were our first players sent off this season, I think we were the only club in the league not to have a player sent off before tonight.

Bit of research first next time JC.

Despite losing 5-1 Wexford Youths played some brilliant football for 20 minutes in the first half against Rovers, possibly the best I've seen from any team in Tallaght all season. Sadly the difference between amateur and professional was all too evident in the second half as they tired dramatically and the defence, which was shaky all along, was ripped apart at times. Youths have some great attacking players and have possibly the quickest forwards in the country, sadly their full back are not nearly good enough and without Anto Russell they were not organised enough at the back either.

Jeez it was like old times in Oriel Park tonight. After going nearly half a league season without a single red card, those who yearned for the halcyon days of 2009 were treated to three. To top it all off, the recollections of Dave Rogers "interacting" with Pats fans in Oriel were revived when Melligan made his own less then subtle communication with the visiting fans.

Melligan and Garry Breen were totally brain-dead for there respective red cards, and can expect their pay packets to be all the lighter when Foster deals with them (ditto for Ross Gaynor for a yellow he picked up). The referree was blameless in both cases. The first red card - for Ciaran McGuigan - was harsh by any standards (but particularly when compared with Dave Mulcahy's lunge on Kelly in the first league game), but like many referreeing decisions was technically correct.

Dundalk were superb in the circumstances, being 2 men down for all of the second half. While Pats obviously deserved to win given that they created all the chances, few would have begrudged the second chance of a replay based on the effort and commitment alone.

It was heartbreaking to lose to such a late goal, after a really fantastic effort - but good luck to St Pats

Ridiculously comfortable for United tonight, as expected. Quick nod to the Malahide keeper/Bohs fan/forum poster, he kept the score down with some cracking saves in the second half

Limerick 3 - 1 Tolka.

Not much in it in the first half, in fact Tolka probably passed tha ball better than we did, but no real chances created on either side that I can remember. They ran out of steam about an hour in, and we were pretty comfortable from there on.

In the second half, Dave McGrath got in ahead of their keeper to flick in a header, and after their defender just failed to get to a flick on from a free kick, Kelleher tapped in our second from a cutback from the right. Sean Kelly stole in to score at the back post on about 90 mins, though Tolka got a consolation when a free kick went all the way to the back post where their striker scored from just a few yards.

Good result for Limerick heading into an important league game against Harps.

Thats it in a nutshell isn't it? if Dundalk hold out its herois defending, when pats score they get the goal their pressure deserved.

On the sending offs, the second two were absolutely stupid. Melligan's particulary as he was on a yellow, and the lino Douglas is known for his, em, "sticking to the letter" style.

The first one was a bad lunge but I don't think he'd have been sent off if Quigley was sent off 3 weeks ago. I feel refs wold be anxious to avoid the ban that hancock received and would rather send the lad off, than let him play and have TV footage show them up.

Not too many pats players can be happy with how they performed but, like most Pats fans of my age, Oriel holds a certain grip on us (particularly in the cup) so I'll take the result anyway I can get it

Had to be the most incapable linesman ever to officiate in the Brandywell tonight.

So many crucial decisions he got wrong.

Overall a very good game but how we didn't win 7-3 I'll never know (oh yeah the stupid fecking linesman).Farrens 1st ever sending off in senior football I was told. His 1st booking was for disent to "that" linesman who was overheard by fans to tell farren to **** off when farren explained that he couldn't be off-side when he was two yards behind the player after the ball was played and was still behind the defender when he recieved it!

A poor enough crowd but it was our 4th home game in a row and the 3rd since last saturday, about 1,300 with 14 Bray fans spotted.

Drogheda 1:2 UCD

Drogs survived the early UCD storm had a very good chance from a corner before they scored from a header in a crowded 6-yard box. The UCD team lost their way a bit but then remembered to pass the ball, Mulhall receved a long cross field past went past at least one defender and scored with an angled shot.
Both sides had a quieter second half, but Billy Brennan still had to make some good saves. David McMillan pulled one out of the fire with a goal I didn't see.
Drogheda created some great chances with Brennan having to be at his best, stretching left and right. Drogs did deserve an equaliser.

UCD's record against LoI sides is poor, against Premier Div./Senior League it's apalling. So it was nice to catch up on ourselves.
Drogheda fans sang throughout the game. Everybody in the away end watching the game enjoyed themselves. A few returnees which is always nice.
Other UCD FANS with their first match outside of Dublin being Drogheda (normal).
Another successful night all round, thanks to Drogheda Utd. for looking after us.

Rovers made hard work of a very poor Athlone side.
Alot of wasted chances and a goal dissalowed.
Athlone were one of the most physical sides ive seen this season but thats to be expected.
Mc Cabe got an early substitution because he was becoming increasingly petulent and was on course for a red card.
As for Mc Keown, well he wasnt as bad as Doyle in the Pats game but some awfull cringe worthy decisions.
Two of note were the yellow card for Russell when the ball hit off the back of his head and second was when Richie Ryan got a full Athlone elbow in his face only for Mc Keown to call the hard shots and tell him to get up.
Decent crowd for a friday night and when looking at other attendences yesterday.
Now Limerick away please.

thought the first sending off for Dundalk was a inbetweener you see reds dished out for those tackles but I wouldnt have been incensed if he had stayed on the pitch either, as for JJ Melligan the man is a moron he deserved what he got the last time we played Dundalk is richmond he was at it aswell.

Harps were superb in the first 20 mins, scored 3 and hit the post.
Completely took the foot off afterwards and cruised to win 3-0.
Crumlin are a handy side and never stopped trying to play the ball on the deck.
Kevin McHugh looking to be back to the player he was 5 years ago. That's 8 goals in 9 at home for him now.

Drogheda have improved a lot on the times we played them earlier in the season. We passed it around really well though; one superb goal and one which was superb if he meant it! MNS will show all. Drogheda could maybe consider they did enough to earn a draw - Billy had to make a couple of good saves, although apparently we were denied a clear peno in the first few minutes - but all in all, a good day's work.

Sligo only scoring one against Athlone was interesting. Hopefully that's their scoring spurt out of the way. :)

What's the story with a couple of posters wanting to be away to Limerick? Is it just Sligo fans?

We're obviously not the easiest away draw, considering the Belgrove V Avondale United tie.

I can only conclude people want to have the Jackman Park experience.

good game of footie in dundalk last night
the 3 sending off were sending offs
the first one came over the ball with his studs
2nd stuck his finger up at a pats fan
3rd he kicked out at guthrie

i think dundalk deserved what they got, did anyone else notice just before half time there were ball boys at all ends of the pitch, none for the 2nd half
disgraceful time wasting ploy by dundalk.

cracking save by cherrie from the header, think it was from alex williams, we hit the post twice and crossbas as well

on the dundalk fans, they have some neck branding the renter fans as hooligans, after last night, throw stuff onto the pitch and the abuse was so strong towards buttimer he couldnt go back in after the full time whistle

by the way dundalk fans there is 2 L's in till, their banner had Dundalk Til I Die

forgot to say as for that scumbag of a steward putting one of our fans in a headlock, for celebrating the goal, although he was on the pitch, what a little knacker he was

Yes there are two l's in till.

But that's a different word altogether. Til is a shortening of until, apostrophe optional.

Ive never been to an away game in Limerick and its far away from Dublin so makes a break from the repitition of travelling to the pale or one of its suburbs every other week.
If we dont get Limerick away heres me hopeing for Cork away.
