So I've heard that the Gallaghers support Ireland (I know they support City) but I have a tough time believing it after reading and listening to these. Does anyone have any evidence to prove otherwise?

yeah, their mother's family is from Meath, and both of them have spoken before about spending their childhood summers in Ireland. Noel said before he'd love to write the world cup song for Ireland

I support the Republic of Ireland anyway. My dad's Catholic Irish so I root for Ireland in a family way. I still want England to do all right. As for supporting Ireland or England - a lot of 2nd generation would swing both ways (look at some who've played for Ireland or England for none music examples), so they wouldn't be strange in not committing one way or the other in that regard. Around euro96 Noel said they wouldn't do an England song as they were Irish, but could anything be taken at face value?

Yeah she is, and their father is from Meath. I remember Noel Gallagher on the Late Late Show years ago (Gay Byrne's time) saying they considered themselves exactly half Irish, both parents being from Ireland but himself and his brothers being born and raised in Manchester.

Noel Gallagher has often stated his affinity with Ireland but I'm sure he'll still have at least passing interest in England's progress in the World Cup.

The Gallaghers used to spend Summers in Ireland as kids. I remember Noel stating in an interview that even years later when he gets back to Ireland that its "the simple things, like the smell of the turf burning..........and nettles!!" that he identifies.

I saw Oasis at the Tivoli in '94 and Noel was about to play Cigarettes and Alcohol and changed it to "Silvermints and Brunches" in deference to a childhood memory of Ireland. You can't get Silvermints and Brunches in England, ye see.

I think its fair to say they have strong and emotive connections to Ireland but they're Manchester to the core.
