Alan O'Connor is very well-travelled for a relatively young striker (think he's 25/26?), having played for Cobh, Kilkenny and Dublin City as well as several clubs up North (including Cliftonville.) He played an important part in the promotion season, scoring five goals in six games during a crucial part of the campaign. Unfortunately, he then had a 'mare against Pat's in the cup, giving away two goals in the opening five minutes and missing an easy chance for 2-1 before leaving the field with a nasty head injury. After that, he never really regained his form, and was released at the end of the season. Good target man, holds the ball up well, and can finish.

Gavin Doyle is another player in his mid-twenties who's already turned out for a clutch of clubs. We signed him from Kildare. He looks quite hard, but he's actually a skillful player capable of some fancy footwork. Played mostly on the right for us, although he prefers to play on the left. Never really made himself a fixture in the team and was let go at the end of the season.

As for Declan Mahon, I had no idea he'd signed for Monaghan, as I've seen him in the crowd at most of our games this season. Can't remember him ever playing for the first team, think he was captain of the under-21.

Understandable when we can bring in the likes of Brian Gannon, Conor Kenna and Ciarán Foley though! Plus financial considerations probably saw us release all bar a core squad.

Stewy Holt

College Fans might be interested to know that this young man graduated from UCD and has never kicked a ball for the club.
When he went to UCD first he was with Home Farm Fingal or Everton or one of those names. Then he moved to Shamrock ROvers. He later lined out for Longford Town and is now with the Mighty MOns.

His brother Stephen Holt joined UCD, from the Official Home Farm in 1988 as a midfielder but his lack of pace ruled him out of contention for regular first team football in that role.
He converted very successfully to a sweeper/centre-half role . He played a couple of seasons in that position before moving to Limerick F.C, under Kinger and then emigrating to England for Work reasons in the mid 1990's.
