unfortunately he is up against it until the facilities for footballers in this country are radically improved.

many of the pitches in this country are a disgrace where grass is left uncut for months each year and the prospect of pitch providers, such as local authorities, ever giving them a bit of maintenance such as a simple rolling is non existent. obviously there are some exceptions to this but how are young lads supposed to learn proper technique etc when the facilities are so poor? scotland are hoping to spend £500m (ambitious i agree) on facilities etc over the next ten years but the one really decent facility, abbotstown, mooted in this country seems to have stalled

Agreed. The first thing we need to sort out is converting the pitches to grass, or smooth cut glass at the least. :P

That was a good article. Bit disappointed he agreed with Givens that winning wasn't important, but at least he qualified it with some common sense.
