Blackadder
followed by fawlty Towers.
Couldnt believe The Vicar Of Dibley got so far.
Watched it last night on UKGold and i was surprised to find it was very very funny.
My five fav comedies would be Blackadder, Father Ted, Frasier, Fawlty Towers and Cheers.
must Check out the Vicar of Dibley more often though

Only fools I think?
Vicar of Dibly is a bit of an Anglican Fr. Ted equivelant. That Alice woman is like Doogle but Doogle is funnier :)
"The Christmas lights are on Ted, O no they've go off, look their back on again! There they go again!"
fawlty towers is definitely the best. the fact that they only made a few episodes and didn't drag it out makes it all the better. john cleese is a genius.
Blackadder, Only Fools and yes Minister all fighting for second. Can't believe the bloody Vicar of Dibley got into the top 40 never mind the top 10!

They dragged those bloody awards out for far too long, and the results were awful. I mean, Jesus, the Vicar of Dibley above Fawlty Towers? What are these people on?
(Probably all the effing reality TV dorks voting.)

Has to be Fawlty Towers. Blackadder deserves a mention. Was a bit disappointed at some of the $hité that made the top ten.
Red Dwarf was well worth its 19th.

Fawlty towers hands down.
Second would be between blackadder and Yes, Minister.

There's a difference between topical humour and flaming liam.
The thing that really ****ed me off about those awards was the inconsistency of it all. I mean there's no denying that every one in the top ten is a bloody classic, but Father Ted at No.11? The scripting alone - I've read the scripts, they're tremendous fun - was up there with Fawlty Towers, never mind the acting. Same with Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em -- some of the players in the top ten couldn't hold a candle to Michael Crawford, and he was a bloody good stuntman to boot.

Father Ted rocks yea-wish I'd voted for that instead of Only Fool now :(
"Ted-why are all the rocks differrent sizes?"

Only Fools and Horses by a whisker from Fawlty Towers.
The early episodes of Only Fools were a masterclass in comedy - thought they went off the rails in latter years with the endless Christmas specials. It was far funnier when Del was ducking and diving and going out with a different 'sort' each week.

blackadder by a country mile, followed by Fawlty Towers. Remember Rik Matall's cameo as lord Flash Heart in series 2? And series four come to think of it. Legend. He had some class lines, like "now shut up or I'll fly home to England and give your wife something to hang her towels on".
Being honest I think only fools is complete and utter shíte, but anyway.
*edit* By the way who in the name of all that's holy voted for the Vicar of Dibley? Fcukin hell like

I was never really got into Blackadder for some reason, but I have to say that anytime Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie appeared in it I used to nearly wet myself laughing. Queenie and Nursie were class characters too.
adam
Yes Minister for me, but there's a few that make it hard to choose (and as has been said, a few that are unbelievable).

i watched a bit of the vote, and Carol Vorderman was promoting it with the "it's the only one nominated which has a female lead, so get voting ladies" line.
Fawlty Towers, only because Only Fools & Horses didn't know when to quit. Not too gone on the first series of blackadder.

Has to be Blackadder for me. Especially the last series. Making a comedy about WW1 that works was no easy task.
"The guns have stopped. I' don't believe it, we've lived through it. The Great War, 1914-1917."
"I think not..."
A classic moment that, for me anyway, managed to be funny and capture the complete waste and pointlessness of WW1.

I voted for Porridge. Ronnie Barker was a genius. My favourite line from it is "I thought I was working class until I visited Glasgow, then I realised I was middle class".
Fawlty Towers and Only Fools also were brilliant. Can't believe that Fawlty Towers wasn't higher. I also like Red Dwarf and Frasier is the best of the American ones.
About British sitcoms, does anyone else think that Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge based on Pat Kenny? :D

i'd have to give it to del boy, but bazil would be close behind him.....
fast show mentioned above isn't a sitcom, its a scetch show.......
micheal crawford created an amazing character there, norman wisdow was offered the part but turned it down.
i watch the vicar of d over christmas and a found it very funny, plus its fresh in peoples mind as it is still being produced, glad to see that complete rubbish the office didn't make it into top ten, but good to see ronnie barker in there tiwce, great sitcom actor....
Went for Fawlty Towers cos even funny listening on audio tape + so few actually made.
Classic quote from Yes Minister on British press:
The Times is read by the people who run the country. The Daily Mirror is read by the people who think they run the country. The Guardian is read by the people who think they ought to run the country. The Independent is read by people who don't know who runs the country but are sure they're doing it wrong. The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country. The Financial Times is read by the people who own the country. The Daily Express is read by the people who think the country ought to be run as it used to be run. The Daily Telegraph is read by the people who still think it is their country. And the Sun's readers don't care who runs the country providing she has big tits.

"now shut up or I'll fly home to England and give your wife something to hang her towels on".
the full line was: "listen up you rubber desk johnny. send the bitch with wheels round right now or I'll fly back to England and give your wife something to hang her towels on."
also:"Captain Darling eh? Last person I called darling was pregnant 10 seconds later." :D :D :D
