Finn Harps

In spite of huge physical effort, Wexford failed to get anything out of the match at Finn Park tonight against Harps who played the neater football. With Breener and Warren suspended, Wexford started 4-5-1 with Packie, Chris, Anto, Wolfie, Dean, Gary, Kevin R. Shane, Patsy and Jimmy and Danny up front on his own. This changed, however, as the match went on. Harps had more possession from the start than Wexford who played very directly. But chances were at a premium with Packie doing well to push a header round for a corner and Danny having a chip from forty yards which went just over with the keeper stranded. Wexford then went ahead, a bit out of the blue, when Jimmy dispossessed the Harps full who may have trodden on the ball and slipped it inside to Danny who put it away confidently. Harps then didn't respond with much until half-time. Nil-one at half-time.

Wexford had an early shot from Danny in the second half which the Harps keeper found difficult to deal with. However, Harps equalised when their winger hit a cross straight at Dean which the linesman flagged for a handball. Had no angle to see if he left an arm out but he was very close to the winger. Penalty was put away to make it 1-1. Harps then dominated the match for a good spell with Wexford finding it hard to do anything creatively although Shane had a good freekick which the Harps keeper pushed away on the bounce. However, Harps looked more likely to score and took the lead when Wexford couldn't clear a cross and Harps player drilled a shot into top-right hand corner giving Packie no chance. Wexford looked for the equaliser towards the end but couldn't get on the end of anything. Only sub was Lee Aust near the end for Kevin R. Couldn't pick out anyone in particular in a hard-working effort. Not really happening for Gary at the moment despite him bursting a gut but it will definitely come.

thanks again for your report, nice to see Danny scoring, to see us scoring full stop i suppose. No shame in loosing there, looking forward to next sunday.

penalty was harsh seemed very much ball to hand only one of other pen claims was one IMO the first the harps player was losing his footing before he was touched but second claim was a pen. it was some goal to win it though.
