This is good news for Dundalk FC and also for the League Of Ireland.

Any investment in improving the standard of grounds and facilities is very welcome.

Is the seating the only aspect you have to address? And are these new seats just going to be layed down on the terracing ala Dalymount or are you building a new stand?

oriel
13/04/2010, 7:12 PM
The seating is only one of a list of around 20 + items to have ready in time for the Uefa inspection in late may, control room, doping room, extra sized dugouts, extra set of goals, back up generator, reserved seating for 500 including press and vips, the list goes on and on.

Re the seating, this is going all along one side where the shed is and on both sides of the stand inculding infront of. Also seating will need to be upgraded in the stand to have all in same format, with backs. All will be permanent.

So not really much to tick off the list in about 7 weeks !

anything that helps league grounds to be upgraded is great. the more teams that get into europe the better. one thing that seems a bit much is the 500 vip/press/etc, especially for small venues. a lot of the other stuff should be there anyway IMO.

*this good mood of mine may not last and I reserve the right to remove the above comments when I come down from last night's high of seeing us bang in 6 goals

We sampled them in the recent friendly and they where nice as usual. Some of us planning on a trip to a Monaghan game, maybe when Derry come to town!

Anyways back to topic, we still are not guaranteed to get the game in oriel after all the upgrading. There is a UEFA inspection in May/June time and that is when we will know.

t's stupid that 600 of the 3,000 tickets are set aside for club/Uefa officials. As if that many will be needed.

It is a UEFA requirement. I doubt if UEFA really care if it makes sense or not - it is the clubs who potentially suffer by not being able to sell them.

Not a huge deal either as if they're not claimed they can go on general sale. Great news for Dundalk

We do the same thing every match with the Glenmalure Suite. We havent announced anthing about the europa league matches yet though, sure the draw hasnt even taken place! Still good to see you are taking a very professional and organised approach in Dundalk.

I presume that you mean this is not your thing. Or do you think that this type of facility should not be on offer, or has no place in LoI?

Does anyone know what weeks the european ties are played ?

Dundalk making a business opportunity from a high profile game. Hard to imagine how anyone couldn't applaud them for it.

The club have already sold close on 2,000* tickets for this match, the reason we went for such an early sale w/o knowing who we are playing is purely based on costs/risk. We had to be sure the demand was there for a game to take place in oriel, taking into account the huge upgrading required. Also by selling these type of corporate tickets, it will take in extra revenue. All of this is good business sense, as the risk of a possible away defeat in the first leg having an adverse effect on ticket sales is now removed.

Europa lge ties to be played on 1/7 + 8/7.................QR 2 a week later I think. Matches on a Thursday for this competition.

* I dont think the total seating capacity will be more more than 3,000 when all upgrades are finished. Also a lot of these have to be reserved for UEFA, Sponors, Away, but some may come back on general sale.

Does the UEFA ban on alcohol cover this type of thing too? I know its not allowed on "general" sale.

Jeez Dodge, shure the gargle is free (like a complementary refreshment option), and certainly not on "general sale". Them vouchers are only to help the barmen (sorry VIP Hospitality Hosts) with their stock control.
