Couldnt find a thread on him. Anyone actually seen this guy play? I know he's 1st div in scotland, but 18 goals in a season is pretty good going by any standard. Since he's only 21 i wonder is there more to come from him.
Thoughts?
was with Stoke and released. his brother played LOI for a number of clubs (Pats included). he was a regular for the Ireland underage squads in the 15-18 age groups.
The level he's at is awful though. Below LOI

Unless I am mistaken I think he got a hatrick on his Stoke debut. Never got many chances after that and Scottish Div 1 is a pretty big drop.
BTW you can check out his stats here; http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=43228
Looks like he wasn't released by stoke but rather sold for £50k. Even at ICT he's been on the bench as many times as he's started

There was an interview with Terry Butcher who is manager there in the last couple of weeks in the Star I think. He said he was actually thinking about getting rid of Rooney at the beginning of the season. He said that he was getting the odd goal here and there but he was no where near consistant enough. Then out of desperation basically coz the team were performing he changed the formation and put Rooney up as the lone striker and he has been a revelation there. Butcher said that he swears in all his years in league and international football he has never seen a more improved footballer

I guess just looking at it he is still 21. Granted the level he's at is nothing special but i think if he makes a move to a mid-table championship team during the summer he could improve again. If ICT dont get promoted and he stays where he is though i guess he'd be a lost cause really

Keith Andrews has thought me never to write off any player too early

Mid tan;e championship? His record in the lower English leagues will stop that.

As razor pointed out, you'd never know. I know scottish div 1 is below the par of LOI, but LOI players consistently move to mid to top level championship teams....or am i opening pandora's box by making this statement?
I'm just trying to dampen any expectations people have for the fellah. Good luck to him

I've seen Rooney play a couple of times for Inverness. Nothing too spectacular, just a decent finisher. He plays up front on his own, with Richie Foran and Johnny Hayes the real "stars" on the wings bombing forward.
Foran has got his third goal in a week tonight and from talking to ICT season ticket holders he has been their player of the year.
The standard would be equivalent to the upper end of division one/ lower premier league of Ireland. Inverness being about as good as Bray or Waterford. The three Irish lads have been the reason for ICT's likely promotion to the SPL.
Rooney - 18 goals in 22 games
Foran - 12 goals in 28 games
Hayes - 9 goals in 24 games

good to see Richie Foran do so well for ICT. I always hated him when he was with Shels back in the day but only because he scored against us so often. I think he was one of the original players to have a falling out with Givens for "breaking curfew" and he was slammed for it from all quarters at the time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Anyway, good to hear and good luck to him.

I know Forans sister and they are from a tough background, youd think that fool Givens would realize these things and handle these young men in a more modern way.
Thank god he is gone.
Id like to see Rooney included to the summer camp, would raise his profile , maybe get him a bigger club and roll on from there.

It's unlikely at best that Rooney will go
Even without Keane and Doyle, there's still Stokes, Morrison, Keogh, Scannell, Sheridan, Murphy, Walters, Long and Folan playing and scoring at higher levels, not to mention the strikers in the Airtricity League

Adam Rooney nominated for SFL Division One player of the year. No sign of Foran or Hayes being nominated which is a bit of a shock
Stokes nominated for young player of the year

Both foran and rooney scored today. That's 24 in 29 for Rooney - surely he'll get a move now? regardless he'll be in the SPL next year at least and then he's as good an option as stokes in my opinion, if he holds up to that level of course

getting noticed now anyway, hes better of staying with Inverness and see how he goes in the SPL before he would move.

Hadn't heard too much about him, but he's off to a flyer with Inverness this season. Worth a call-up?

scored at the weekend anyway but can't see him ever getting out of Scotland, if he is lucky he can play for celtic like the other 90% of the country who already have

been following him the last year or so, hoping. The big question was if he could bring last seasons score tally into the SPL and he's 4 out of 5 now. Considering how many people are mad about stokes, he's defo worth looking at. Sounds like a Keane type scorer too, goals arent amazing looking but always clever runs for easy shots.
Granted i think two of the goals this season were penos but still...the kids only 21!

I couldn't find a thread for Adam Rooney on here; if I have overlooked it you can delete this one.
He scored a brace yesterday and has 10 goals so far this season. In fact since he joined Inverness CT he has averaged a goal every second game. I know that was mostly in the Scottish 1st division but his form has carried into this season in the SPL. He's still only 22 so maybe he has some potential yet.

Hat-trick today. Richie Foran and Liam Miller also scored in the same game.

Another 3 for him at the weekend. One penalty, which he had earned anyway, and all well taken goals. Great to see.

Starting ahead of Cameron Jerome who would have been their no 1 in the last couple of years.

Maybe... They're in Europe though so I'd say it's as much about building a squad to cope with that, the league and the two cups, as it is about any dissatisfaction with Walters. I'd say he'll get ample oppertunities to retain or regain his place...

Crouch on the end of Delap throws with Walters thumping defenders out of the way, it's a match made in heaven.

Came on as an early substitute for Zigic against Reading today and scored within 5 minutes. Not sure how serious Zigic's injury but it's a great time for him to be finding form with the playoffs about to start. Colin Doyle also playing.

Goal Rooney. Rooney barged in to on the edge of the box only 5-10 minutes after coming on, a bit of a soft penalty. He steps up and sends it to the keeper's right, 1-1.

That shows how poor the standard is in the SPL. He is a bench player in League One and he is going to be a pivotal figure for Aberdeen and rightly so. He banged the goals in for Inverness.
