It's good to name a ground after a David Bowie Album!

I'm sure there'll be plenty of crisp, attacking football.

It's a terrible name but sure if it gives them a few quid extra sure why not. I'm sure there wasn't many companies banging down the door to sponsor it.

Not embaressing (sic) in the slightest. Majority of people will still call it United Park (or Drogheda's ground...) and they geta few quid of a sponsor in a time when sponsors are laving all sports in droves.

Stadiums named after sponsors is already normality here in Germany. Remember the Signal-Iduna Park (Westfalenstadion Dortmund), HSH-Nordbank Arena (Volksparkstadion Hamburg), DKB Arena (Ostseestadion Rostock) etc... I hate it, actually. It kills tradition. There are already a lot of young football fans who have forgotten the traditional names of the stadiums. Best example: A HSV fan told recently a radio station that he thinks the original name of the Hamburg Stadium would be AOL Arena. You have to know that the Volksparkstadion called AOL Arena some years ago. Because of such things I don't like sponsor names for stadiums. But in fairness this is just my German point of view.

On the other side it's always good if there is anyone who bring money into the LOI and the clubs. Football is all about money. And if the League of Ireland want to improve it just needs money, money & money.

Another bit of good news for Drogs and the League. Selling naming rights for stadia has been a widely used fund raiser all over the world. After all their financial woes of the recent past good work to whoever at drogs got the sponsorship.

Or false advertising. When you see Hunky Dories on the side, you're not expecting the contents to be so soft.

I'm nacho about the whole idea of selling naming rights to stadia in general, wotsits say about the value of tradition?

And with a name like that, teams will hardly be quavering in their boots at the prospect of visiting the place!

Well, OF COURSE it's embarrassing. How is playing in a ground called 'Hunky Dorys Park' NOT embarrassing? The point is - Is (the reported) 100,000 Euros worth the embarrassment? - Yes.
It's like if someone offered you a thousand Euros to go around wearing a T shirt saying 'I AM A ****'. Most people would do it. In effect Drogheda are being paid to be humiliated. But, for very good reasons, they can't afford to look a gift horse in the mouth. Fair enough. Fans will still call it United Park anyway.

Congrats to Drogheda for clinching such a deal with Hunky Dorys in these tough times. However, judging by the teams performance against UCD last week maybe the club could reconsider the naming rights and get Pfizer on board as sponsors. Viagra Park might keep Drogheda up !!

. In effect Drogheda are being paid to be humiliated. But, for very good reasons, they can't afford to look a gift horse in the mouth.I don't find it humiliating at all. My wife bought a six pack of Hunky Dory's yesterday. They were lovely. The fact that they indirectly help my club gave me a sense of pride. If you don't want €130k off a major Irish company, then more fool you.

Its a silly name, but nothing silly about the cash end of it, they have done a very good job securing this, so fair play.

Ps Indo says its 100k, even that is significant.

Drogs fans should be getting pringley with excitement over the name.
Will the wide steps of the terraces be changed to thicker ridges?
Will Drogheda Directors scrub-up for an Official launch name?

There's still plenty of chances to slice and dice their opponents, although I'm afraid as UCD were the last team to play at United Park, the Honky Dory's name will be kinda stale the next time we play up there.

HD Park is sooo New Media.

Good Luck with it.

It still amazes me how far the Drogs have plummeted in the last couple of years.I'm not saying this deal is bad its brilliant, just getting a point out.

Hows the Claret and Blue club coming along btw?
