After nearly getting one high scoring prediction right last season, I hope to go a few better this time around.
Mervue 2 - 6 Limerick.
If the soon to be infamous Limerick Shrimpers flag makes an appearance, add 14 to our goals tally. It's rather good luck.

Id say even more then that joffy. How do most fans think we'll do this season anyway. In fact lets just cut the season in half and ask how do we think we'll do in the first half as we know there is usually big ins and outs during the season. What do fans expect of the team, club, match day improvements? are the new admission prices fair? what do the club do well and what do we do that can be improved on. Jackman isnt ours to improve but works have been done by the ldmc and more are planned.

Two things:
Implementation of compulsory adult supervision of young people at matches.
Construction of a retractable roof at Jackman, so as to protect our formidable playing surface.
With regards the league...optimistic as always :)

Hopefully be in touch with top 3 then get a striker in ay halfway and up the challenge.
All admission prices are down so thats always good.
Supervised kids only is the only matchday improvement i would want.
Has been a good few improvements in the running of the club so im happy already.;)

I'd be hoping top 5 come mid-season with playoffs still a distinct possibility
Club does need to reign in those scumbag kids this year though as they'd put a lot off coming back

Referee and linesmen were absolute jokes.
We had a stone wall penalty turned down in the first half and the Mervue goal didn't even come close to crossing the line, even the Mervue stewards were agreeing that it was a nonsense
Good to be back though

no offence i'm a limerick fan and thats the same excuses as last year i was talking to one of the limerick players and he said davy was at fault for letting the goal in and limerick didn't take their chances see what happens next week against derry who lost to cork
first up the fact remains THE BALL NEVER CROSSED THE LINE! in fact it didnt even come close to it. Not one mervue player went looking for the decision, only the linesman who appeared to wave an offside deemed the ball to have been a goal. Our peno shout in the first half was also a joke. Shane was tripped as he went to score, the refs version...."the pitch tripped him." We played badly in the last 20 when they went 10 iin defence but five subs (3 mervue 2 limerick) a five min stoppage for a mervue injury, and every mervue player went down with cramp does not equal 3 additional mins. It was obvious that the officials were not going to let mervue down and leave without a point. another fruitless visit to galway, with these officals we will prob never get a win up there.

How does us not taking our chances rule out too terrible decisions from the linesman?
Also Derry drew with Cork

Derry 1-1 Cork according to RTE and Aertel.
Even taking events into account after tonights game, any point away from home is a good point,
If LFC can win the majority of their home games and keep picking up points away from home, it'll be a good season...............
Roll on next Friday v Derry, and a win and 4pts from the first 2 games will be a great start.

Ya that game was a draw.
Limerick didn't play very well but still deserved the win. Hard to tell from where i was if the ball was over the line but it didn't look like it and nobody was looking for the goal. Clarke did alright up front. He was very strong on the ball which actually went against him cause every time he out muscled the defenders a free was awarded against him which got frustrating. He was very unlucky when he hit the post in the first half and also Kelleher looked certain to be in for a goal but his first touch let him down. Thought Boylers had a shocker, missed passes time after time. The rest of the defense was very solid, White and Cahill particularly. Kelly looked alright in parts of the game but needed to get stuck in more. Kavanagh was too slow with the ball at his feet in the first half, trying to do too much with it instead of making the easy pass. Performed a little better in the second half. Tracey did alright too up and down the left. Judge looked very good on the ball, comfortable and strong. Tierney looked lively in the first half but went missing in the second, took his goal very well though. Big improvement needed for next Friday night. Other games ending in draws tonight helps a bit.
Ryan, Boyle, Deady, White, Cahill, Kavanagh, Tracey, Kelly, Judge, Tierney, Clarke.
Subs Used: Lyons, Kelleher.

i agree we need to up it for next week, but that draw knowing how fickle the limerick fans are has dropped our gate by 500 for next week. Sponsors which are being courted at this time are not gonna be impressed when we have spoken up for the club and the league only to be dealt an abortion of officials such as we had tonight.
sad thinig is we'll have them again in Longford, monaghan, galway, harps and athlone later in the season. chances of seeing those guys in limerick? 0%

my man of the match would have to be jeff judge i thought for a young lad in midfield his passing and tackling was outstanding.
the linesman decsion was unreal the ball was at least two foot from the goal line there players were in knots laughing and barely even celebrate they were shocked. i was at the chipper van on the far side for the pen decsion a complete disgrace he was hacked down you could hear the contact from were i was the ref was never going to give limerick nothing.
iv never seen pat scully so mad at a ref and the fourth offical mervue players were going through the back of limerick players at least 6 or 7 times 1 yellow card was shown.
on another thing that was a disgrace on sportsmanship mervue not giving the ball back to limerick instead playing into the corner for a throw in. limerick 3 times gave the ball back to there keeper.

Good teams don't allow Referee decisions to effect results 90% of the time, if your hoping to win matches based on referee decisions being spot on 100% of the time you will always be frustrated..... Take the chances when they come and these things will not affect result as often

Limerick were the better side, but couldn't find a winner. Mervue set out to defend and play long balls down the lines for their front men to chase. They created very little, but on our side, Limerick didn't have the guile to break them down.
Can't comment on their goal as I was down the other end. We were denied a definite penalty in the first half - you could clearly see the defender's leg catch him.
Most disappointing was that in the last 20 mins, we were unable to fashion any real chances for ourselves.

clake created a great chance for robbie kellaher on 90mins he was clean though on the edge of the box he took a very poor first touch keeper dived at his feet. a good first touch and it was a goal

Lims should have been 3 up at halftime, Goalie for Mervue saved their bacon. Ball didnt look over the line to me but the linesman was 100% adamant. The officials were really bad for both sides, Denied lims a stonewall peno. Over 60 lims fans there very encouraging about 220 others

Disappointing result. Despite Mervue having the better of the opening 10-15 minutes, we came out and put some authority on the match. Clarke was excellent up front holding his man off, just a shame the ref didn't see it that way. There was so much confusion about their goal, nobody could believe it stood. Linesmen were a joke, I recall one offside decision in particular in the second half, where one of our lads was miles onside - a Mervue defender sticks up his arm, and about 10 seconds later the lino decides to flag.
To make matters worse, I nearly lost one of my boys when I was taking down my flag. Bad times :D
Good turnout. Fair play one and all.

davy ryan made a big mistake why don't scully pick collopy his better than ryan
1st off Davy didnt make a mistake and wasnt at fault at all it was the defence that should have cleared it.
And Collopy wasn't playing because he has missed almost all pre season and only came back training wednesday.
