Are our main sponsors doing enough for us?

Something I've noticed is that you will rarely see a promotion for the GAA run by the GAA, or for rugby by the IRFU. The norm seems to be that in addition to paying a load of money to be an "official partner" of these organisations, the sponsors seek to maximise their association with the brand by running ads essentially promoting the sort, with a short segment of AIB, or Guinness, or whatever, tacked onto the end. It seems a good system, especially for the sporting body, but also for the company, as mutual growth happens, more people watch the sport due to the adverts you put out, which increases the number of people influenced by your positions as main sponsor.

Could this ever happen with the LOI? The marketing people target an emerging company about to embark on a huge advertising campaign, like say Meteor a few years ago, really push for a strategic partnership, and encourage them to run ads featuring the league as part of their broader advertising strategy?

Just a thought, anyway, to spark discussion in the post-TNB era!

Since you mention Meteor, has Meteor got any links to any sports/sports teams at the moment? They would be a good company to get involved with as they are Irish and seem to be growing every year. Usually then before the likes of MNS or a live match (LOI, Champions League, World Cup) there would be an ad to say "Meteor proud sponsors of the League of Ireland" etc.... It's good advertising for both parties and with the World Cup coming up its a great opportunity as a lot of people will be watching RTE's coverage of it. I know at the moment it would probably be tough to get a company on board but something like this has to be done even to just get the name of the League of Ireland out there more. Online advertising and posters around cities and towns isn't enough as most people won't take any notice of ads like that or on the internet unless they intentionally go looking for that kind of thing. At least on telly most the time it can't be avoided seeing an ad for it if shown enough.

Beamish were great to City in recent years, from their general support of the club and club/fan related events, to the Beamish vouchers for season ticket holders and there were some ads in the echo/examiner mentioning their sponsorship of us.

This could be quite an excitiing development as they have been pretty agressive when it came to switching to them from the ESB and with them going into the Gas market it could be a good time for exposure for the league if they do it right.
