The Gary Doherty option...
Ah, give him a chance. He has good feet, unlike Doherty.
Played the full 90 mins in CSKA's 2-2 draw away in Wales last night.

No match report so far in the English language Bulgarian paper. Plenty about him in Bulgarian though:

I thought his touch was utterly atrocious against Argentina, but his headers were well directed.

Ive never seen him do anything in any game that justifies his selection in the Irish squad. Personally I think hes one of the poorest players Ive ever seen in an international shirt. I know hes young and that might sound harsh but even the basic stuff like work rate and first touch is awful. And Im not just judging his work rate on the Argentina game when he had played the night before, its been every game Ive seen him in.And lets not forget he didnt even score goals at Plymouth when he was there on loan, it should be a given that any player with ambitions to play for us should do well at that sort of level

Unnecessary harsh comments. Cillian Sheridan needs the routine and experience from first team football before a fair assessment of his future potential can be made. He's not a superstar in the making but he does offer something that is currently missing in the squad. Agree that he has a poor touch but let's be honest about it, how many of our players have a good touch? Richard Dunne's touch is truly awful for example. Obviously there's a host of professional football clubs that see something in Cillian Sheridan so trust their judgement and give the kid a fair chance to show his worth before whinging about his selection in the squad.

Im all for giving lads a chance to develop but my original comment was that I have never seen him do anything to justify his selection in the squad and I stand by that. A call up to the international team should be earned and I just dont think he has even come close to earning that selection

Only 3 strikers were originally named in the squad. Fact of the matter is that we don't have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to our striking options and Sheridan's current inclusion in the squad is justified and necessary. Yes call-ups to the international squad should be "earned" but common sense dictates we need to have a few striking options in the squad for the forthcoming double-header if, heaven forbide, Keane or Doyle should get injured. Sheridan offers the target player alternative that would be missed if he wasn't included in the squad.
justified and necessary ifk? Cant agree on either. Im with Razor on this one.

I would argue that if we are just gonna pick someone to be a target man then Jon Daly would have a bigger shout for a call up than Sheridan has. Daly is just the first name that comes to mind but he has at least scored goals regularly in the SPL, which Sheridan hasnt done. I by no means think Daly is good enough either, but he at least could justify his inclusion more than Sheridan

Well I'd rather have a fourth striking option in the squad if anything were to happen to either Doyle or Keane. It's both necessary and justified to have that option. I trust in Trapattoni.

Scrapping the bottom of the barrel bringing Jon Daly's name into the equation.

I'd prefer to see Clinton Morrison called up myself, but I understand that Sheridan is needed in case we have to resort to the long ball late in the match.

Clinton did score for Sheffield Wednesday today but he wasn't in the starting XI today and only came on when they were already 4-0 up. He got his goal in the 93rd minute. I would have agreed with you at the start of Trap's reign but I think Clinton's chance is long gone at this stage.

He's a target man, he's not meant to be tracking back. By waiting up the pitch he gives the defence an option to boot it out to him, and in an ideal world he can hold it up long enough to win a free kick. And I don't remember Quinner having a great first touch. He's there cos he offers something different. He wins headers, he wins free kicks, and he is the kind of player defenders hate playing against.

I said it in my review of the Argentina game that he got a free pass from me for his performance on the night, because of the baffling decision to play him one night after he ran himself into the ground in the entire U21 game VS Estonia

He's definitely a marked improvement on the frail lad we saw perform up on his own against Ferdinand and (I think) Vidic at Celtic Park. He did go missing in the second half against Argentina, but he's clearly not a player who gets intimidated by big name defenders, and if he can improve his technical game in Bulgaria he has a very real shot of becoming a long-term fixture in the Irish side. It all depends though.

Good luck to the lad, but he's clearly not even close to the finished article. Are we to believe that he is better than Stokes (Celtic got rid of Sheridan and are ready to pay three times the figure they got for him for Stokes - so there's at least one club and its coaches who think Stokes is the better player - but his goals should tell us that anyway) and Walters?
I honestly think that since Brady left the set up there is a serious disconnect in translation and experience of the English League between Trap and Tardelli and the players they pick.

I also thought his first touch was atrocious when he played foer Celtic against Copenhagen! He's scored some good goals in the SPL and has a good turn of pace about him so here's hoping. I was only saying above that Trap obviously fancies a Gary Doherty like option to spring from the bench. It's not exactly an insult - GD scored some important goals under Kerr.

That's a big head he's got.
Само две минути по-късно ирландецът Килиън Шеридън вкара трети гол във вратата на Георгиев, след като бе точен с глава от 6 – 7 метра.
Just two minutes later the Irishman Cillian Sheridan scored the third goal in the door Georgiev after being accurate with the head of 6-7 meters. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=bg&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.focus-sport.net%2F%3Faction%3Dnews%26id%3D1148764344257

Once he settles in, I'd love to hear his thoughts on what it's like to play so far out of his comfort zone. It may be part of the EU, but having been in the country a couple of times (albeit for a skiing holiday) large parts of it are very barren, very bleak. I've never been to Sofia though so perhaps it's a bit more pleasant.

Have to disagree with you regarding Quinn. May not have had a great touch at the start, but his touch became fantastic as he got older.

Great header for that goal.
I think it was a brave decision by him to move to Sofia but it was a decision that indicates a level of ambition and determination to succeed. I hope the move works out for him and it's certainly encouraging for his future international prospects that he has quickly established himself as first choice with his new club.

Black Sea midfielder Yordan Yurukov claims the judge spoke of the match with CSKA Ahmed Ahmed. According Yurukov striker Cillian Sheridan CSKA hit a ball without a defender of "sailors".
"An Inconvenient loss. Stand well and missed many chances. If we had inserted them we would win. Sheridan hit our defender without the ball, but the side judge make it sees. There are videos and this can be seen," said Yurukov.</span>

On first viewing it looks like he is completely free, but look at it again. After Cillian makes contact with the ball, you see a red player emerge from behind him. Looks like he went up for a header and outmuscled his marker.

Nice to see him get off the mark. Very cool on the goal celebration front, no Tardelli 'vein bulging' effort thats for sure - Not looking to come across a c0ck with his new buddies no doubt (I think wearing white boots doesnt put you in that category these days - right?)
