An unusual proposal has stirred debate before Saturday's Bundesliga game between strugglers Hertha Berlin and champions Bayern Munich. A Berlin radio station has offered a million euro to any Bayern player who would score an own goal to give a helping hand to the Berlin outfit who are lying second from bottom in the 18-strong league. The club's officials called the idea from 104.6 RTL to reward an own goal "ridiculous" and "in bad taste" but one Bayern player did find it funny.
"Let's see who could do it," joked midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger. "Maybe Roy Makaay. He's our best scorer." Another candidate might be Bayern playmaker Michael Ballack - the only time he has ever scored an own goal was in Bayern's 6-3 win over Hertha in Berlin last season. Second-placed Bayern - nine points behind leaders Werder Bremen with 10 games left - need victory in Berlin to keep alive their slim hopes of retaining the title.
