Travel around Italy

Doing a bit of travel around Italy in the summer and am looking for info if anyone has done the same; The Plan is to start in Venice then go to Verona, then Florence and then on down to Amalfi. What I want to know is how is easy is it to comute from Verona to Lake Garda. Is there a train/bus that runs regularly? I've looked on a few tourist sites but there pants. I'll be inter railing so train would suit me best. Anyone done anything similar in the last couple of years that could shed some light for me?

TrenItalia (http://www.trenitalia.it/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=ad1ce14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080 a3e90aRCRD) would be your best bet I'd say. I went from Milan to Lake Como last April - vaguely similar trip - and there were trains going every hour or two there and back (think they were for Zurich or Amsterdam or somewhere). Just need to work out what the stop closest Lake Garda is (there's no match for "Lake Garda").

Yeah there is a train that would suit, just have to figure out now if the euro pass tickets are taken on the train, (presume that they would be) or if its cheaper to book the trains individuallly.

If you are into cars at all, the Ferrari museum at Modena (I think) is well worth checking out.

Also, Florence and Venice are brilliant and really beautiful. You'll adore them.

We got a bus from Lake Garda to Verona. Very handy and it's not that far away. Definitely check out Verona, beautiful wee city! The amphitheatre is worth a visit. Wasn't a big fan of Venice (probably the time of year with too many tourists etc.) but definitely worth a trip. If you are into theme parks go to Gardaland. Largest theme park in Italy and it's a good day out.

I thought Venice was great. I was there around the carnival (completely by accident, I was in Italy for the San Marino game!) which was great crack. I found Florence a bit dull, the buildings are nice but the museums get a bit repetitive after the 10th Madonna con Bambino

One of the best holidays I've ever been on was Venice. We went towards the end of February a couple of years ago and basically had the entire city to ourselves, compared to what it's like in the holiday season. It was quiet, nowhere near as expensive as people said it would be, and the city was bathed in fog most of the time, which just made everything all the more beautiful and otherworldly (there's a few pics here (http://foot.ie/threads/126263-Photo-Thread?p=1257989&viewfull=1#post1257989)). And getting a boat back to the hotel at night beats getting the Luas anytime!

Yeah...i'd like to go back to it at a more quiet time instead of the middle of summer. It was absolutely packed when I was there. It is definitely worth a visit don't get me wrong.

If you are into theme parks go to Gardaland.
That just sounds weird.

I have to be in Florence for a wedding so no real choice there. I having trouble getting from Salerno to Naples by train on a Sunday, they dont appear to run on Sundays, anyone know if there is a bus that I could catch instead?

Sorrento get the train or ferry from Naples. The public buses that travel further along the coast arent that big and can be over crowded and its not obvious what towns you are in. If you/your wife/partner are in any way dodgy travellers avoid like the plague . My missus passed out/threw up/passed out on a packed bus on a trip down the coast all hairpins bends acceleration and braking wasnt a good combination.

There is a bus/coach from Bardolina (Lake Garda) to Verona think about E8 2 or 3 times a day. If you are around Lake Garda go to Malcesine and use the cable car. spectatular views and there is a cafe/bar restaurent up there.

I think the only train station on Lake Garda is at Peschiera del Garda on the southern end of the lake. It's a stop on the main Milan - Venice line.

Urbino, near Pesaro is a lovely town which is usually pretty quiet, Ancona is probably the nearest big city to it... I was there a few years ago and would recommend it
