Referees to engage in greater communication

In a number of alterations in the officiating of games for the coming eircom League season, there will be fourth officials on duty at all First Division matches, while match referees and assistants will convene with the managers of the respective sides approximately one hour prior to kick-off of each fixture.

A statement given at the launch of the league on Monday afternoon declared that the move was a "pro-active attempt to improve communication between team managers and match officials".

good news. its not just aproblem here, but in a lot of countries. Graeme Souness was giving out about it being a "schoolteacher- pupil" relationship and said it did no-one any good, and I think he's dead right.

Certainly wasn't in evidence when dolan was roaring at the ref in Galway on friday night though :eek: :D

I'd actually be happier if there was some agreement between the referees and linesmen to communicate...

As a former GAA ref I think it should be a schoolteacher-pupil situation (to some extent) as some gits on the sideline should learn to do what they're told.
