I did a search on this before posting and there isn't a specific thread on the matter of Twitter. I think this is my third set up and I originally joined at the outset only because the notion amused me. I forgot my log on but I'm back on there. I use it rarely and for amusement only. Just wondering though whats out there and what is worth following. I'm still failing to grasp the idea as its pretty much a case of reading texts people publish and for the most part thats not really that interesting.

I've had the suggestion of Dr Phil and Jeremy Kyle as friends but I assume they are generic suggestions as I have given away little of my psychological profile away. Had I done maybe both might be appropriate suggestions.

Gave up on Twitter quickly after a brief flirtation, but I found Graham Linehan funny

Don't mention about blowing up an airport (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/twitter-joke-led-to-terror-act-arrest-and-airport-life-ban-1870913.html) anyway...

I just use twitter for sports news from the US so I don't have to visit different sites everyday.

The Flock (http://www.flock.com/) browser is fantastic for anyone who uses twitter regularly. It's built by the guys who made Firefox and, basically is firefox with some improvements.

I'm quite tempted to go on again, I can see its uses, I might just use it for news and sports rather than people's inane witterings.

Very little on it worth following I think, apart from some comedians' pages.
There are a couple of league clubs doing regular tweeting though. If you had the time, and it was against the right team, you could follow Harps' fortunes live-ish (if the game wasn't on radio). Or of course catch up on the blow-by-blows after the event.
In the First, I know of ourselves, Monaghan and UCD (won't bother us this year) who did it pretty regularly last season.

Cheers Stann. I was aware that Monaghan Utd and UCD featured their match coverage on it. I'd be inclined to follow clubs actually and its handy on the go.

I'm not getting the whole Twitter thing at all. Its a much milder version of the rubbish that is facebook but I did actually return to facebook to keep in touch with some things. I think I have moved beyond this stuff at this stage of my life and I'd say I never really got the overly into it all.

There's always the matter of things always been improved on. I'm just not sure what it is with Twitter but it strikes me as one of the most basic models of social networking. A little like the first mobile phone. Very very basic indeed.

Schumi gets the vast bulk of the credit there, BTW. Very handy for games you can't make - beats the hell out of keeping an eye on aertel.

Yep, apart from match updates, and maybe bands/comics releasing tour dates and what not, can't see any point to it at all.

Thought it was Pineapple Stu who did that? Was watching (who I assumed was) him intently the last time I was at the Bowl (EA semi), making sure I got the tweets away first. :D

I'll deny everything. I've never done it. Most I've done is text updates to schumi to tweet. And I've done the Aertel updates.

I wouldn't admit to any kind of connection with Aertel in public. Saying that on here is like humming this (http://homepages.ius.edu/STEVEN/songs/SovNatlAnthem.wav) when at US customs in the 1950s and wearing a red scarf.

i actually think twitter is very useful

although ive looked into it and got confused, SOMEBODY should really setup an account for the "league of ireland"

that way on matchdays people can tweet score updates from games to the "league of ireland" account & anyone following that said account should get the update on their mobile phone anywhere in the world.

The basic simplicity of it is what attracts people. There's a lot of baggage that goes with social networking sites like Facebook.

If you pick who you follow carefully, and cut out the fluff of people's inane updates there can be use in it.

Yeah me too (cycling too). Its kinda like an rss feed, but by following certain reporters you can narrow down what you get. Also follow a few things like AAroadwatch which I find handy

If you have n iphone/ipod touch there are 3 pretty good apps (twitterificc, echofon and tweetdeck)

Tweetdeck started as a PC application and gives you more control than your pasic twitter.com page

I mainly tweet nonsense (but then you guessed that from my posts here)

Its as good a time as any to mention this but I would have known if it was you by the presence in close proximity of a carton of 'Squeez' Pineapple Juice. I presume your username is linked to this. Or am I wrong? Your easy to narrow down as I sat behind you in the Showgrounds once and figured it was you by the fact you actually had a carton of Squeez Pineapple Juice. I remember little of the game. I was wearing a Harps coat and I hink we were in contention for promotion with yourselves that year hence my presence.

Found it extremely useful for Tour De France last year when I had Twitter on my phone.... Or live football matches if im nowhere near a telly. Have to agree, a LoI service would be useful.

I used a well placed monitor, a set of earphones, and a flagrant disregard for the thought of responsibility at work sorted me out for the Tour de France :)

Football is a little trickier though:mad:

I'm dry for years now, but that's where the handle comes from alright. Was it 2005 that you were at that game? I remember meeting a Harps fan when we played Sligo in 2005; walked in a couple of minutes late, he was slagging us because Harps were top of the league, and then I saw the scoreboard said we were 1-0 up and had just leapfrogged yez. :)

At least I had an excuse to be unaware of the score as I was a few minutes late. Youse were in and seated. :D I'll give ya the benefit of the doubt though. It was poor fare. I'm assuming it may have been 2004 actually but it might have been 2006. We were champions in 2004 and in the Premier for 2005. I'm sure youse were in the Premier in 06 and that rules that year out. Sligo may have went up that year also (2006) and when that game was played they were nowhere near challenging. They were terrible. 2004 then we'll settle on. If so it matters little what leapfroggin' youse did as we went up as champions. :D

I only use it for industry news & updates, which its actually really usefull for. Getting instant updates from companies you deal with is a great feature.

I dont follow any individuals as i dont care to read tweets like "just back from the gym good work out" "had soup for lunch it was too hot"!! Who cares !!.

1 great tweeter you should follow though is sh*tmydadsays. really really funny. Its just a guy that posts the stuff his 74 year old dad keeps saying. stuff like.

"Son, no one gives a **** about all the things your cell phone does. You didn't invent it, you just bought it. Anybody can do that."

"You worry too much. Eat some bacon... What? No, I got no idea if it'll make you feel better, I just made too much bacon."

"That woman was sexy...Out of your league? Son. Let women figure out why they won't screw you, don't do it for them."

Edit : link wont work due to the name just google it you ll find it.
