Hi all,
I was just wondering when our new home kit might be launched? Any ideas? I thought it might be planned to coincide with the Euro 2012 draw in February.

They usually launch them around St. Paddy's day, so maybe in time for the Brazil match.

In saying that, we'll be well down the list of priorities with it being a World Cup year, so they might hold back until the Summer.

The sooner the better, as the current home top is awful.

Ireland kit is looking a bit dated at this stage. I'm not sure what it'll look like, but rumours that the tailored kit might be a goer. Hoping it looks like Man City's kit rather than England's.

Aye, at least with the blue, there is a chance that the colourblind might mistake us for Ireland, but with the white, and the three lions, it could easily provoke an international incident...

what are peoples favorite Ireland jerseys from over the years. My personal favorite is the 2002 world cup one, its the one I still wear to games. I did like the white one from the 94 world cup too

I'd love it if we went back to adidas. They're really putting in a lot of effort with their jerseys these days.

It was under Don Givens actually, I think, but it did look like a training kit. Played like a training team too.

The most plausible reason for us wearing a third kit is if we are playing Ivory Coast wearing their away kit(), Celtic(), or a Shamrock Rovers XI(:D).

I wear the old black one around the house at night.

The best home top we've had in years is the one we had when we went to the Stade de France under Brian Kerr.

What I really dislike is the fact that ours and Northern Ireland's current kits are practically the same, with a little fleck of colour around the neck.

Overall, football kit makers are very lazy nowadays, too many templates. Those Puma African nations' kits are nice, but whilst they look good on Didier, I can't see Davey from Drogheda looking as good when he's stumbling out of Hill 16 before a match.

It looks more impressive in a stadium if the colours are bright, no point going towards black, it's not intimidating(look at the Dutch,Brazil and even Cork in hurling), as a matter of fact i think the home jersey could do with brightening(slightly).

I think the home jersey we had when McCarthy took over in 96 was the best. It was a great shade of green and as far as I know I can't remember any other team with a similar design to it. Think it was one of the first Umbro kits we had and I remember it having a thick white stripe on the sleeves adidas style, with weird symbols on the stripe that I could never make out. Since then I think Umbro have gotten progressively worse and lazy in their kit design.
Other than that I think the 88 home shirt is an all time classic...
What about getting O'Neills back on board? AT least they'd put some thought and time into the design unlike the multinationals.

Was that McCarthy one the Saloon doors one? Why did someone in an office somewhere decide that the thing that sums Irish football up is saloon doors?

I always associate tops that we've had with certain players. The one above always goes hand in hand with Eddie McGoldrick in my head

http://www.irelandshirts.com/history/history/1990/1998croatiahome.jpg always reminds me of Lee Carsley.

I'm not sure why, but they're the players that come to mind when I see those 2 (brutal) home shirts.

Totally agree - you can't beat the old school adidas. Only thing is if we went to adidas now it would be this adidas performance sh*te. Pity they don't do an originals alternative for casual wear.

If we do stick with Umbro I hope it's a green version of the England top. I generally only like their kits if they are in flames, but do at least think it looks a bit retro.

from my understanding of that article, the new kit will be the same style as the current english jersey, with an old fashioned collar and large crest and label.

sounds simple and not as flashy as in recent times.

Im not really sure the old style kits would work with that new-fangled flashy FAI logo. All of Umbro's Man City kits this season are very classy, I'd settle for something like that.

Having been to croker for the rugby last Saturday, I would like definately like us to go with a darker shade of green. Looked really well on the pitch (thats how bad the second half was, I was thinking about how the kit looked).

I prefer the bottom shade of green in them there mock ups. Always have always will. Though no doubt that will be the colour of the IFA jersey. Last few IFA kits have been much nicer than the FAI's however I have a gra for teh current one we have.

3 things I would love though no matter what 1) reversion of the shade of green (Like the IFA kits) and 2) A revised badge even if it's just that "shamrock-ball" in the middle of the shield. It would look a lot better on the shirts IMO. or Better still a reintroduction of an updated 1990 badge. 3)The ability to buy a national shirt WITHOUT that poxy Eircom logo on it.

I own it. But i think its probably the worst kit we've EVER had! Distinctive and unique though, i suppose.

Ah come off it, its a classic :D I always thought it was a rubbish kit when we had it. But hindsight is a great thing, cause the 'off the peg' muck that Umbro have served up over the past 15 years have been far more offensive than that one. Llooking at the pics of the up and coming shirt (or Man City Keeper Jersey), it looks like Umbro are still employing trained monkeys to design this years get up!!

And here I was hoping they'd do the same thing with the Irish Jersey.......

But you may be still be wondering: why Kasabian? "[Umbro] said they wanted to take it away from the footballers for once and do something up to date," the Republic of Ireland-supporting (http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/nov/14/kasabian-oasis-one-last-thing) Meighan said. "They wanted to combine with rock'n'roll."

Think it read FAI, backwards and forwards. It was a completely mental kit alright, but daftness on such a grand scale should always be appreciated.... well unless your umbro and looking to launch an England shirt in Paris. What were they thinking??
