Should we be worried about Chris Turner and that "clause"?

I didn't like the way he left us, but I have to admit that he's far from the worse manager in the League. This is his biggest challenge yet, given Galway's very tight budget.

He has so many big name friends in football like Mick McCarthy and Steve Bruce that I am sure he will do fine. :D

I think yere safe enough, Turner definitely would not get anything near what ye might offer him down here. Our budget will be around E150 per player, maybe E200 for some but that would be pushing it

Sean Connor spoke about the clause in Chrissy Turners contract at the Galway press conference this afternoon. Connor said the clause did exist and that he saw Turner as the best midfielder in the League and he's love to have him at Galway but that remains to be seen.
It was the funniest press conference I've ever attended... mothers and kids sitting around eating chicken wings and chips with Connor, Leason and Michéal D. in the middle of them. Only in the League of Ireland would a press conference be held in a chipper.
I prey Connor signs Foyzer ... now that's a press conference I want to be at!
He did stress the squad would be predominantly made up of local players and it was unlikely any of the usual Connor recruits would not be following him to Galway.

This was clearly a concerted effort to entice Foyzer to Galway.

I know a lot of people don't like Connors but I have to say I think he is a gentleman, when I had my hip done a couple of years ago Seanie called in to me whenever he was meeting the big shots in the Belfry, he'd call in with the match programme and a packet of wine gums and update me with all the goings on, I texted him good luck last night and cannot wait to see him back in the Showgrounds.

He is a gentleman, absolutely. He probably got the programme for free and the wine gums were left over from the players supply at the previous weeks game. Steve Bruce told him wine gums were good for players and for new hips:) Bet he got loads of texts from Sligo cos he was always going around with wine gums to people. A real wine gum buff our Seanie.

I don't see Turner going to Galway if its true, i've heard rumours that players there will be on as low as 100 to 150 euro's a week, he'd get a bigger wage here and I doubt, as I said in another thread, Galway could even afford him.

D'ya know what - I consider Chris Turner to be a terrific player but if the height of his ambition is to play for Sean Connor, it probably explains why an excellent coach like Pat Fenlon ditched him and why he never made it in England.
I can understand Sligo Fans views on Sean Connor and although he was by far the most qualified applicant he has a huge job on hand to sort us out as well as winning over the more sceptical of our own fans never mind the numerous fans from Bohs but more particularly Sligo where some people seem to have a total fixation with him.
What I cant understand is the childish comments over GUFC having the Press Conference in the Flagship shop of our main sponsor and backer Pat McDonagh .

Sligo have held launches and other meeitngs in the premises of their main sponsor Tohers. I know its not a chipper but clubs should support their sponsors. Its a way of of giving a bit of publicity , don't knock it.

Now, I have never organised a press conference and it would seem those who organised yesterday's in Supermac's put NO thought into how best to run a press conference.
Yes it is a good marketing strategy to hold a press conferences in a sponsors premises. Rovers and Tohers have done this exceptionally well in the past. Keith O'Dwyer or who ever is in charge of organizing our press conferences ensured there was a SUITABLE designated space to hold the event, and in pleasant surroundings! Upstairs in Tohers Chemist lends itself excellently to such needs. Past Rovers press conference was held in the premises away from the main floor of the shop, away customers who probably do not need to, nor care about Rovers. It's also worth noting for such events, Sligo Rovers provided a full PA to ensure what was being said by the those who were talking could be heard by those attending.
What happened in Supermacs yesterday was a joke, if I'm being honest and a poor reflection on Galway United & Supermacs. This isn't an attempt to have an easy dig at Galway United. I wish the best for the club but their attempt at a press conference was laughable.
The table where Connor, Leeson & Michéal D were sitting was landed in the middle of mothers and sons eating their chicken wings and burgers. It was close to impossible to hear what any of the three men sitting at the table were saying, no amplification what so ever in a busy fast food join!!???? There was ample room further down the premises, where no one was sitting, where the event should have been held, away from those who were trying to eat their chips in peace. When the press conference started punters were looking around with bemused expressions on their faces. There was no order or to the procedure. When Leeson started talking all the camera men just moved in and stood in front of the table taking photos for the duration. No one could see or hear who was talking after that.
There was zero thought but into the whole thing.
I was presented with a slice of pizza at the end, so I left happy.....

The Press Conference which was so amateurish as stated by yourself managed to get Film & Interview Coverage on all 3 TV Main News yesterday,Was covered by all local & National Media and had over 100 GUFC Supporters at it .
It was the best coverage we ever got for the unveiling of a new manager so somebody has obviously got their head screwed on.

I never doubted the coverage but it could have been done much, much better. It's also worth noting Galway will get plenty of national media coverage with Seanie on board. ;)

Not trying to be a WUM. it was posted on our forum earlier today by a usually reliable poster. http://galwayunitedfc.net/index.php?showtopic=1984&st=300
He has a clause in his contract and our budget might not be as small as first expected. He obviously wants to work under Connor and Connor obviously wants him. It should be interesting to see what happens.

I think he is mulling over whether to stay for circa 1k every week or join a small time part-time outfit with financial problems for 200 a week plus unlimited Papa Johns pizzas and supermacs.

At this stage it might be better he does leave.
Hes a very good footballer, but the lad has obviously got issues, this whole clause thing with Connor is a bit strange to put it mildly. Hes not worth the hassle.
As for Galway signing him, thats madness. How much of their budget are these two guys going to eat up.
So much for steadying the ship and living within your means. With a double act of Connor and Turner mayhem is never too far away.

Taken from yesterday's Belfast Telegraph
Shamrock Rovers manager Micheal O'Neill revealed he is still interested in former Northern Ireland under-21 international Chris Turner, who agreed a deal with Sligo Rovers after parting company with Dundalk, but there have been suggestions that financial issues at the Showgrounds could make the midfielder available again.
“He was a player that we spoke to at the end of the season and we were optimistic,” says O'Neill. “If Chris Turner is a free agent he would be a player that we would have a big interest in again.”
As for Galway signing him, thats madness. How much of their budget are these two guys going to eat up.
So much for steadying the ship and living within your means. With a double act of Connor and Turner mayhem is never too far away.
Leeson was telling a local journalist down here that a local unnamed businessman (Apparently Pat Mc Donagh of supermacs) has made a significant contribution to the club which will see the club not only satisfy the revenue board for this coming season, where will obtain our PL licence, but also increase the budget for the players coming in this season.
Now, as everyone knows, if there is a bigger mouth than Connor its Leeson, so we will just have to see if it is true or not ? Things though are looking much rosier this week than last week for GUFC and I personally can only hope it is just not some kind of dream/nightmare !
