Any chance of this or an invite to another small tournament?

I would for us to have something like his, like 2 - 3 games over a couple of weeks.

That tournament hasn't existed for a decade. Don't know of any other invitational tournaments right now aside from the annual Kirin Cup (which I believe Ireland participated in the 80's).

Kirin Cup (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirin_Cup) only started in 1992.

We were in the Icelandic Cup in 1986 (don't know if it had a name; ourselves, Iceland and Czechoslovakia). There was also a Brazilian Independence celebration Cup in 1982.

Mini-tournaments are reasonably common still (there was one last week involving Iran, North Korea, Oman and I think Qatar), but they tend to involve smaller nations and be one-off, self-organised things. So it seems the easiest way to get an invite is to start one ourselves.

Good idea Stu.....and why not simply have ourselves Scotland,Wales and Northern Ireland...Scotland should want games under their belt with new manager, and its been a while since we played the north

Kind of like a '4 Associations' Tournament' ......

Maybe hold it in the Aviva Stadium :D

We lost in the Kirin Cup Final in 1984

The Brazilian Independence Cup was in 1972 and we met Portugal, Chile, Iran and Ecuador if I recall correcting winning v Iran and Ecuador and losing the other 2.

We won the Icelandic tournament as mentioned beating the Czechs and the hosts.

So wikipedia was wrong?!

Was it a full national side up against a Japanese collegiate side?

We only recognize the China semi final as a full International but it was a decent squad - Bonner, Anderson, Beglin, O'Leary, McCarthy, Grealish, Stapleton and Walsh.

Eamonn O'Keefe scored v China.
