better off with just the basic pack from ntl for 26 quid per month and going to the pub to watch the footie.
take it from me folks and never sign up for it.
im stuck with it for 12 months now and cant wait to get rid of it

How in the name of God did you end up paying €98 p.m. for Sky? All the Sports and Movies Channels, and in HD, multi-room? That's obscene!

I pay €24 p.m. for my Sky+ package and have a second TV in another Room with a lidl decoder [€59 once off] connected to the Sky dish that gives me all the FTA stations at no additional cost. I stream any televised games I'm interested in, which are few enough tbh.

I think Sky is a better overall package than ntl and slightly cheaper too. Recently got ntl in, had 'another service' until recently. I pay 57 a month so basic pack and Sky sports, Set Ireland is thrown in with the ntl package so thats obviously a bonus. Have watched alot of games on sopcast lately but I think the 30 quid extra a month for sky sports is worth it in my case, watch alot of football including the spanish football so get my €1 a day worth out of it.

I remember reading recently that when digital tv becomes mandatory in 2012 i think, they reckon prices will come down. I think fta packages will be available will be option of adding sky sports for an additional fee of say €20 per month. Like alot of us if we had the choice now would be happy with the basic Irish and UK FTA channels and sky sports on top, but thats where ntl/sky currently screw you, cant just get sky sports for example, have to get the basic pack first.

ESPN and ESPN america is now free to most UPC customers. So for 64 qid a month you can have multiroom, digital+ (like sky plus) and for sports lovers you'd get ITV4, all the Sky Sports, Setanta Ireland, ESPN, ESPN America and Europsort 1 & 2

retty good value IMO

Excellent didn't realise ESPN was free now too, only noticed the 3 ITV's appear the other day too, the package is getting better all the time in fairness to them. I have my broadband with them too and I have to say I have no complaints about the service in general, just as long as you never have to ring them about anything it's fine.

I think its possible to reduce your current package on a month to month basis.

"Entertainment" is split into 6 segments. Theres only 1 segment really worth keeping, bin the other 5 and reduce your cost.

Most of the Music channels are rubbish and the same for Movies - so you could drop them as well.

Obviously drop any other additionals.

In other words, retain 1 segment of entertainment and Sports.

That should drop you back to about €40 a month.

Closer to €50, but yeah, why anyone would sign up for everything is beyond me. Style & Culture like, hello?

Don't worry folks - I think the God Channel is still available even if you reduce the package.

One thing that drove me mad when i had chorus/upc last year was that i didn't have all the channels they advertised. When i asked why i was missing channels (up to 15) i was told it all depends on what area of the country you are in. Switched to sky this year and find the quality of the picture to even be better and i get everything advertised. It can be more expensive when you add in all the little bits and pieces but it can also be cheap if you break it down to just what you need.

I still don't have ESPN and ESPN America free, I might have to ring them because I think it should be included in my package now :(

The guy I spoke to in Customer Srvice said it was being "rolled out"

The only packages who don't get it are select and value. I'm not sure what these are BTW, just going by what he said

I rang them up as I was paying 57.50 a month for a Digital Value (which is actually missing quite a few standard channels) plus Sky sports pack. Said I wanted to switch to the Sports fan pack which had alot more basic channels for one and also Espn. The sports pack only costs 50c a month more than my current one. Initially they tried to tell me that offer was only to new customers but its not, so they have now switched me. Still dont have espn classic which comes as basic on sky and is a great channel imo.

I'd awful trouble with ntl when I moved apartment and tried to get them to transfer my service. Despite repeated phone calls they just never showed up to connect me in my new place so I was left with a useless ntl box that they tried to keep charging me for..

Went for Sky+ then and happy enough with it. Two major drawbacks on it though are: (1) No free Setanta Sports like there is on ntl and (2) inability to record the FTA channels like ITV Film 4, etc.

Back in Dundalk now though and I'm stuck with just the four Irish and five UK terrestrial channels. I've been looking about for a FTA dish and box so any recommendations would be appreciated! Seen a box that doesn't even require a dish, you just plug into your aerial. Anyone got one of these? Can you pick up many channels on it?

If all you watch is sport look into foreign subscription packages. Sky is a feckin ripoff. You can buy Al Jazeera (http://www.tvcorner.com/index.php/cPath/21_68?osCsid=f3e6f3f1586adcaf94cb2c77cb3df5f1) sport card, 90 quid for a 12 month sub. FA Cup, all champs league and europa league, french, italian and spanish footy. Take a look at the foreign satellite forum on boards for more info and other packages. I have saved a fortune since getting out Sky back in March.

DigitALB (http://www.tvcorner.com/product_info.php/products_id/290?osCsid=f3e6f3f1586adcaf94cb2c77cb3df5f1) is alse a decent package from what I've seen and heard. 300 quid for the card for the 5 sport channels.

Really depends what sports you want. But with most cards you will save a lot over sky.
