Dont rule out McManus being shipped out as well as Caldwell though, so still room for manoeuvre though not at £3m PNE would have to come down in their vaulation. I agree its more unlikely now.
Celtic are said to be looking to sign 2 CB's, a bid of £2.5M plus £500k add ons and I think it would be a deal.

Yep, as I said McManus is not required by Mowbray so can definitely see another CB coming in. However, Id be amazed if we splashed out £3m for one - we dont have the cash when other areas also need strengthening. A few quid in for McManus would help but I still think £2m to £2.5m would be our limit (may be with some add ons as you say).
Articles quoting fromer managers and team mates saying bargain at £4.5m is just tabloid nonsense really.
Rangers havent signed anybody for about 3 transfer windows. Celtic signed Fortune for £3.5m in the summer. We've just signed the South Korean lad for £2m and the CB from AIK for £1.5m. The money isnt in the Scottish game - This transfer needs to be funded by players leaving or it wont happen.

I take your point, but if Celtic want him, then they are going to have to pay what PNE want.

Hope Sledge doesnt leave Preston, despite his not so good time at Boro, I can def see him with an EPL club in the not too distant future.

All the talk of center back signings for Celtic seems to be bad news for Darren O Dea, which Im a bit annoyed about because anytime he has played for Celtic he has done well but has never got a proper run of games

Not sure what Mowbray really knows about O'Dea as he was shipped out only a couple of months after Mowbrays arrival. He did play in the pre-season games.
It does seem strange that we have a young guy on a 3 year contract, who has performed at least reasonably well (some would argue better) who does not appear to be in Mowbrays thoughts as a possibility in resolving the CB problem.
The loan spell at Reading has not gone well, would be interesting to know what feedback Rodgers has provided Mowbray with on his performances, attitude, training etc....
Looks like another Loan spell for him though......

Darren O' Dea has done well for Celtic with limited opportunities and he is one of those centre backs with an eye for goal from set pieces. Its a bit surprising things have not gone better for him at Reading.
He has one or two weakness's though. I do not think he is quick and he is not the biggest for a centre back. I think his lack of pace stops him getting some games as a full back (Yes, I know he has played a few games at full back for Celtic, but just a few).
One thing that he has going for him is that centre backs are often late developers (reading the game, positional sense, and becoming a cute hoor)
But he needs to start making a breakthrough somewhere soon !!!

I'd give Darren the benefit of the doubt on that game as he has hardly played since October. He didn't get many games at Reading during his loan spell. He wasn't originally due to play on Saturday but Loovens withdrew before the game.
Darren was in the unusual situation that he was given a new contact at Celtic the day before he went out on loan - not the usual scenario if the club is trying to offload you. I think Mowbray wants him for the long-term but thinks he needs a bit more experience before becoming a first-team fixture (hence the ill-fated loan move).

I have to say as a Celtic fan Im glad. He's overpriced in my opinion.
If they are looking for the £4.5m that they agreed with Boro, well it can only be a Premiership side (or top side on the continent) and I havent heard much interest from them tpye of clubs - is there any Doc?
It's understood that on Wednesday, PNE turned down a bid from the Glasgow club of £2.5m plus £500,000 in add-ons.
I hope he gets a move for his and Irelands sake

I think he'd be better of at Portsmouth for the moment. In football terms, at least. He probably won't be too happy when he has to wait an extra month for his wages for the 11th time.

Leon Best has signed for Newcastle, 3 and a half year contract.
The Guardian's live report on Robbie Keane's transfer is amusing. People are editing his Wikipedia page and the Guardian are publishing all the rumours which have included:
Robbie Keane is currently on his way to McLaren for the remainder of the season on loan. This would be his first spell in Formula One.
Robbie Keane is currently on his way to Tottenham Hotspur for the remainder of the season on loan. This will be his first spell on loan at a club which he is actually signed for anyway.
Robbie Keane is currently on his way to the Labour party to become leader, making it his first spell as the prime minister.Currently they are reporting that Robbie Keane was a member of the labour party, but is now dead.
