Since when was having LOI experience a prerequisite for managing Sligo Rovers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the likes of Willie McStay, Lawrie Sanchez, Steve Cotterill, and dare I say Sean Connor had no previous experience of this League. They didn't do too badly either. The fact is your beloved Mr Cook was a disaster at Southport. Don't just take my word for it check it out.

Yes, he didn't do well at Southport, but are we Southport ? No. But that was with a Conference team, he is now with a higher standard team and is he a disaster here ? I think not. Oh, and you left Paul Cook out of that little list ;)

i think we will all agree cook has his faults but thats down to being a young and fairly inexperienced manager. he is learning his trade with us and doing a good job so far. there is not one other manager in loi that would be any better considering his budget.
there were times last year i questioned his ability but if ya look what he has done since coming he is a breath of fresh air. he likes to play football the right way and and is a winner. its a long time since we had a manager who is so open and willing to answer any question a fan may have. if the boards trusts the man and gives him a half decent budget that wont cripple us he may well bring some silverware or european qualification again. i say stick with him and be grateful for what we have....... the grass is not always greener on the other side.

What a laughable thread, from wanting rid of cookie to suggesting he's gay! He's a good manager and he's also 100% heterosexual.now get a life and talk about something football related.

What a crock of ***** this thread is. Paul Cook has had our team playing the best football the Showgrounds had seen in years ........... in fact this thread does not even warrant a debate on the matter. I hope Cookie stays for years to come and builds on the work he has done so far with the limitations (budget / squad etc) etc most of us are aware of.

By the way you should have been more original with your user name. Perhaps it might be a good idea to change it after this. Please everyone else do not associate me with this rubbish.

Sorry to disappoint but this will be Cook's last season. If he's so good how come Pats or Shams didn't come in for him, and don't tell me it's because he's too loyal to Rovers.

Do you think before you post at at all. They havent come in for him cause Shams have a manager they are happy with, and Pats havent two bobs to rub together in order to buy him out of the contract he is in at the moment.

Id call you stupid but the post would be sent to the rubbish section if i done that.

With the greatest respect I don't think that you can refer to Cook as a young manager, considering that he is 42 years old. McStay when he came to Sligo was 31 years old; Ian Foster who's just gone to Dundalk is 33 years of age, while Eddie Howe who is managing Bournemouth is only 32 years old. Surely these type of guys are more deserving of being called young managers!

1) Its no secret Pats and Shams wanted him, and no doubt Pats still want him.
2) Both teams already have managers

considering cook played football up to 2006 he is young in the managerial game, he is only at if 4 years or so. can we have your reason outside football to get rid of cook or are ya too cowardly to say. your beating round the bush here on this arguement because his managerial credentials are as good as any, its outside football issues you seem to have the problem with.......

This is hilarious. Your argument has now descended into arguing whether or not he is a young manager.

You haven't a clue. From Boco's wages to this. Please give up

To be fair ARooney28 others have made silly statements along the way that have indeed deflected this debate. I just have a different view on Paul Cook to most others. We live in a democracy and that's my privilege. Yes the team have played good football under Cook, but I also feel that a bad substitution, culminating in a tactical error (not to mention the non penalty) cost us the FAI Cup. Similarly, I am of the opinion that a lack of preparation and tactical nous deprived us of advancement in the preliminary stages of the Europa Cup. Both failures have resulted in the loss of potential revenue for the club. I also think that the decision not to name a full complement of subs on occasion last season, reflected poorly upon the club. I accept that he was down to the bear bones in terms of numbers but what harm would it have done putting a couple of local lads on the bench? As locals we appreciate what representing the club (no matter how briefly) means to a Sligo native.

I would like to see a change at the helm, but obviously it's not my call. However one of the joys of football is that it stimulates debate and everyone who pays through the turnstiles is entitled to voice his or her opinion.

I'm off as of tomorrow on a skiing holiday but I will be more than happy to resume this discussion in the New Year.

Maybe that could have cost us the final, but how do you think we got there in the first place? We has the hardest route out of everyone to get there in the first place. You really need to put things into perspective.

Cook is a con-man!
He has the lot of you eating out of his palm in thinking he's great. He's an utter trickster and who is tactically inept.
As for the people saying he has brought in brilliant signatures? Are you for real? He filled the team with average journeymen last year, and we barely avoided relegation.
I'd have him out in an instant.

For what its worth I have one or two reservations about Cook too. Having said that, I'm sure things didn't work out the way he planned for the first part of last season and he has made some good signings for next season. He should be given a chance to prove himself in 2010 and see what happens after that.

Well we can all sleep easy at night knowing your not in charge of this club. And i'm sorry, but he had to work with what he could afford from January through to July, and brought in some quality, hard working players like Matthew Blinkhorn,Eoin Doyle and Dean Marshall whilet he return of Peers was a massive factor in our survival. And your one to call our manager a con man when you're both a WUM and a common forum troll.

What a sad world you live in and I have no desire to add to your troubles but there are organizations you can contact for help, the really sad thing is that you probably think in your own mind that your are being amusing but without wanting to hurt your feelings you are now a pain. Make a New Year resulution that you and Roveranout get together and try and support the Rovers next season, I am not optimistic but still wish you a Happy Christmas and a Cheer ful New Season.:)

Considering Micheal O'Neill is top of a list to succeed Craig Levein as manager of Dundee United, I've no dout Shams are currently sniffing about Cook.
