So what’s the difference between people from Bray and people from Sligo or Dundalk? Why do people from these towns get out and support their local club and people from Bray don’t? On average I reckon the amount of people who are from Bray or the areas close by for each home game going to our games would be less than 700, the rest would be made up of away fans. Bray has a population of about 40,000, the rest of Wicklow must be 100,000? Then the likes of Shankill, Dun Laoghaire etc must be about 250,000? Gives a huge potential fan base of people who support a football team, but as with most people in this country they are only interested in the glamour of the game and world stars, that’s just not Bray, its all over the country.
Even though Bray might have a substantial urban population how much of that is from the fact that it is a satellite town for Dublin?
One of the downsides of being so close to Dublin.
As with us we dont have that problem, we are the largest urban area in the northwest without any competition really.
Also it must not be ignored that in Sligo Town all that is really going for it on a National Scale is our football team, the GAA team is only really followed by people from the county and tbh there is very little else people from the town have to be proud of bar our football team that represnts us on a national scale.
TBH I havent the foogiest notion of how to replicate the local following for say like a club like Bray when you have Dublin on your door step.
I think the root of it lies not in the club but on the urban consciousness of Bray itself and if there is one so to speak of it is best for the club to somehow attach itself to it.

Most of you do know that our gates are going to be down by nearly half or not just over half next season don't you. How on earth do you think we can afford to resign players on Premier Division wages ? Players who are being signed by other 1st division clubs can afford to offer a hell of a lot more than we can. As it stands we simply do not have the money to be able to offer contracts to our best players from last season
We have Shields, Massey, Webster, Kelly and O'Neill signed form last years squad. it's a decent start as they are all good young players with good experience. Most Premier teams don't even have 4 players signed yet ! 95% of players were without a club come the end of the season, so we are not the only club in this situation.
i'll say it again, we cannot afford to have players like McCabe, Coughlan or Mulcahy at the club when we are in the first division. We simply do not have the home support to be able to offer Premier Division wages while in the first division.
I completely agree with Roo, its time the people of Bray decied if they want a football club at all. There is a catchment area of about 100,000 and the club dont even get 1% of that. This says more about the people of Bray than it does about those who run the club. The club just cant afford Premier Division wages.

I wonder now will we see more players sign as now bray are in the Prem we need 3 teams, senior, B and u20s, still plenty of players out there to sign and will do a could job, but money wise can we afford it? Is the budget big enough? Will they increase it now were staying up? Lot of work to be done behind the scenes in the next 2 weeks now and best of luck to the club in doing it.

Agreed. Brennan brought nothing to the table for us at all. He'd be a waste of money that we don't really have.

Exactly we do need experience and Brennan did absolutely nothing to help on the youngsters last season. Every single player I talked to said Stephen Brennan was only looking after Stephen Brennan and had no time for him. Personally I wouldn't want a player who isn't liked in the dressing room unless he's dynamite on the pitch, and sure Brennan didn't seem to be match fit at any stage last season. Think the wages we've spent on him would be far better spent on someone who will lead by example like Daire Doyle does.
And to be honest I'd take Doyler back, would give us that bit of unpredictability that bar Franco (who it's still to be seen if he gets a proper go at it this time) the side lacks hugely

I'd love to see both the lads back at the club being honest, they both have great experience and are good pros and still have a lot to offer. Brennan IMO was our best passer of the ball last year plus he was played out of position in centre midfield so i think a bit of the stick he took was unfair.
Hopefully they are back.... wonder will they be involved tonight ?
I'd say there might be a few more faces coming in, well im hoping

Stephen was over weight but he is a good footballer. He was about the only player in midfield that could stop and pick out a player, he is also a good organiser. For all the work the Dave Mulchay & Chris Shiels put in at time they were both headless chickens. Stepehn Brennan is also an experience Premier Divison player, something that a young side will need.

We can still sign players who are out of contract, there is no deadline on that.
the Brennan roumer might have some truth, he was at the match last night. Also head ex Rovers, Bohs and Shels player Mark O'Brien is training with us. Would be great to get him in !
I heard loads of roumers at the game last night, Dan Connor, Dessie Baker, Shane Robinson all mentioned along with about another 20 names ! :D
