The UCD Bowl. (http://www.ucdsoccer.com/index.php?a=387)

Fact. :p

Nominated by players, officials and managers means I assume the award should be renamed "Best dressing room". Still, beggars can't be choosers.

Those spaghetti suppers must be appreciated in Wexford too.

The best surface in the most miserable and atmosphere-free stadium.

Oh, I really did think it won for best pitch/playing surface! Can't believe it's won best ground. Must be some kind of joke - surely? (Checks date - nowhere near April 1).

I'd imagine a quick read of my post would answer your questions.

An interesting tack, I know, but perhaps one worth pursuing...

According to the league website it's just the pitch... phew...

Aw...

Go on Stu!

Did you actually think The Bowl would get an award ahead of SDCC's ground in Tallaght?

Again, read my original post, where I assumed it was for the dressing rooms and stuff like that for that exact reason. Even that makes more sense (cos our dressing rooms are top notch) than giving best pitch to a rugby pitch. And obviously, once Wexford were on it, I kind of figured it wasn't for the quality of your stand.

Also, the seats in Tallaght are horriblely coloured; would never give it best ground. :)

(The e-mail I got had "Best Ground" on it. Honestly!)

I'd say we could have been in with a shout if ATS wasnt built on an ancient Indian burial ground

always the bridesmaid never the bride :D

it was for playing surface only BTW

"The UCD Bowl has been voted 2009 League of Ireland Pitch of the Year, following a vote by players and match officials.

The League of Ireland Pitch of the Year, sponsored by the Irish Institute of Sports Surfaces (IISS), was awarded following consultation with players and match officials. Following those consultations, UCD Bowl, Dalymount Park and Ferrycarrig Park were shortlisted for the award

The IISS visited each of the shortlisted pitches and graded them on the following criteria:

· Root depth/Vibrancy
· Grass Length& Quality of Cut
· Thatch Level
· Bareness
· Stability of Underfoot conditions "

Yes I know they're all first division but they're the only ones I've seen in any detail :)
Not keen on kildare, terryland or limerick!

Small time fans, celebrating staying up

Indeed. There was a civic reception, an open-top bus parade through the city and each player got a golden handshake of ten grand.

How did you celebrate the Cup final defeat to Fingal a few weeks ago?
