UCD went down to Dublin City on the Foster's Avenue pitch on Saturday afternoon. Apparently there was some rugby match on at the same time, so the crowd was down around 30, about half of whom left at half-time catch the rugger.
We looked sharper going forward than against Longford, but our defence was surprisingly weak, and we let Dublin City in for two very soft goals, both of which came from the left-hand side. We were creating chances though, the best of which was set up by that new right-back (Brian Newguy, until we confirm his real name!), who came onto a clearance and looked to be teeing up for a long-range shot before chipping the ball over the entire defence to an unmarked Mick O'Donnell, but Micko could only chest the ball up in the air and to the keeper.
A minute before half time, Newguy was involved in our first goal. One of his now customary raids down the line ended in a City defender handballing to prevent him getting past. He swung over the free himself, where an unmarked Rob McAuley took advantage of some suspect defending to hook home our first goal of the season, into the same goal as he did last season against Kildare.
A minute into the second half, another free caused more confusion in the Dublin City defence, and the ball came free to Robbie Martin who slotted home. But City wrapped up the win with a goal which I didn't see as I was getting a ball out of the ditch (was having my own knock-about at this stage).
Team was - Gallagher, Newguy, Foley (who played up front last week), McAuley, That Right-back guy, Sullivan, McNally, McDonnell, O'Donnell, Gallen, Martin. Subs used - Willie Doyle, James Timmons, Hugh Davey.
Overall, a poor enough performance against a Dublin City team who showed no reason why they will be in the Premier next season. Gallagher looked a bit iffy, and that right-back had another poor game. Word is that Alan Mahon is making his come-back against Drogheda on Wednesday.
Team for Bray at this stage should be -
-----------------------Gallagher/Quigley
Newguy-----------McNally---------McAuley---------Mahon
Sullivan-----------Gaffney----------McDonnell-----O'Donnell/Davey
---------------------Martin-----------AN Other (Gallen/Finn/Doyle/Burke/McWalter)
