A few questionable ones there "Sweet Child of mine" beating "whole lotta love". Not a big Metallica fan but they have better riffs then "Enter Sandman". And prehaps the most worst of all Michael Jackson "Beat It" made the list when Link Wray Rumble didn't

Always liked Thin Lizzy and the start of Whiskey in the jar - not the best but one that always catches my mind
Or some of the Horslips stuff is cool

Main riff in Gojira's 'Flying Whales' is absolutely immense. If you've never heard it, please do so.

Enter Sandman would barely make the top 20 Metallica riffs alone. ...and how did Muse' record label rig a vote like that?

What The Hell by Ohio Players has a brilliant riff. Unfortunately, can't find a link for it.

Yeah - but Jimi would take that punch on the chin, dust himself off and repond with Foxy Lady, Purple Haze, Fire, Spanish Castle Magic............................................. .

Funnily enough, its certainly listed as "Voodoo Chile" on all official written references to the song.
That said, I was reading the liner notes to the relatively recent re-issue of Electric Ladyland and it features some of Jimi's original pen written layout for lyrics etc etc.
He makes reference to a song called "Voodoo Child" - which he obviously changes to Voodoo Chile, late in the day.

im not really sure what constitutes this list to be honest. Id have judas priest breaking the law, if they are on about catchy riffs. Id also not let the stones anywhere near that list. HOrses for courses though.

are they not two different songs? one is called voodoo chile slight return...the other is more standard blues? got to have hendrix top of the pile people forget what it must have been like to hear him at the time. people have a larger sonic pallette nowadays.
the horslips trouble isnt a guitar riff no? its classic all the same...in the same vein dexys geno...

Yeah the openings good but I think the solo is even better. Took me forever to get down and I still usually can't get it 100% when I play it.

Yes - there's the 14 odd minutes blues song early on in the album and the iconic "Wah Wah" effect intro one to close the album.
Agree on Hendrix's impact as well - the type of stuff Hendrix and the Experience came up with in the late sixties must have been spellbinding for people at that time.
Given the primitive recording techniques and equipment at their disposal - its amazing what they came up with. Some of which has never been successfully replicated.
Hendrix was far from a one trick poney though. I rate him as a great song writer too - who could well have produced some all time classics into the 70's.

I'm also tone deaf and found this one online, but it sounds pretty good to me.
I originally found this here (http://www.fretplay.com/tabs/t/thin_lizzy/whiskey_in_the_jar-tab.shtml), but changed some of it to make more logical sense so there isn't as much moving around on the fret board.
Maybe I'll record myself playing it later, I've never done that before though I do have a mic.

sure ye might as well. What harm could come from it? Ye might as well start putting that mic to good use. :)

Well my fingers, hands, and wrists are currently pretty much frozen and will probably be in some pain when they thaw after delivering packages at work all day. Maybe after Christmas I'll do it.
