CUFL Premier Division Final

UCD 2:1 DIT
Pete McMahon Craig McDonald
Robbie Creevy

This was a very competitive game, DIT started the brighter with short passing moves. UCD got into the game mid-way through the first half David mcMillan smacking a free-kick off the post. DIT replied with a shot off the bar in the same minute. A short time later, Pete McMahon latched onto ball over the top pushe dthe ball past a defender and went past him with a classic hump-back move, returning to the line he was running on. He slipped the ball under the DIT 'keeper Craig Hyland.
DIT kept plugging away and Craig McDonnell scored a cracker from well outside the box. The match continued at a high tempo pace, Sean Houstonholding the ball off well and suppling Robbie Creevy, Paul Corry and McMahon. For their part DIT had the rangy Stephen Roche (DIT and UCD AFC) who can cover alot of ground quickly but he was up against the experienced Gareth Matthews.
In the second half DIT's right back Dean Zambra (Bray Wanderers and Irish Univ.) was making some forward runs. The match continued with some quality passing and a number of times a goal was prevented through a last gasp tackle from both sides. Substitute Samir Belhout, on the right wing, was able to free up other UCD forwards. David O'Connor, UCD left-back, grew in stature as the game went on, allowing nothing past him. Robbie Creevy from 25 yards out on the left curled a shot that deceived Hyland and went into the top right hand corner.

UCD: Ger Barron, Gareth Matthews, David O'Connor, Michael Kelly (James Timmons), Michael Leahy (c), Paul Corry, Pete McMahon, Robbie Creevy, Gavin Falconer (Stephen Doyle (Samir Belhout)), David McMillan, Sean Houston.

Scorers: UCC Aiden Menton, UCD Paul Corry.

It's a pretty cool semi-final line-up.
UU Magee playing out of their skins reach the semi-finals. Fair play.
The UUJ squad should still be very good, I havn't seen a list yet but they've matched UCD for Irish University Internationals. They've won it in 2008
NUI Galway were Runners-up last year to UCD.

"UCD retained the trophy they won in 2009 to make it three University and College trophies in the first three months of 2010."

UCD won their second penalty shoot-out of the tournament. Mark McGinlay saving two of today's penalties.

Just to tie up the loose ends. Queens Univ. won the Farquhar Cup, DCU beat NUI Maynooth in the Spillane Cup and St. Mary's Immaculate College Limerick lifted the Duggan Cup.

Fourth Competition, Fourth Trophy for UCD.

UCD beat UCC 1-0 in the Crowley Cup at DCU Sportsgrounds, Glasnevin from a Michael Whelan first half goal. It meant UCD picked up four intervarsity trophies out of four.
UCD don't enter a team in the Crowley Cup but I think there was an Executive decision to stop UCC winning four-in-a-row. So UCD entered a team this year.
