Not that I rate him particularly, but why would they?

Perhaps the personal attributes and character of players have little bearing for most people in appraising most players, but for me the behaviour of this particular player in his final season overshadows all the positives aspects of his play that went before.

Ezekial, as in most cases, there are 2 (or many) sides, and I think you'll agree there was a long in the mix. Regardless, this is down to the quality of play on the pitch, not looking for role models etc. If so, there are more than a few we would not be naming.

But if it's a question about the best player I don't really think the player double-crossing a club or any other off-field indiscretion should really come into it. If I was asked my favourite players, it'd be a different question and a different answer.

I had the pleasure of chasing these three around the park...in the old days!
Barry Kehoe - Dundalk
Martin Bayly - Sligo
Derek Swan - Bohs

I have no idea what the last part means. If you are suggesting that there is an alternative story that justifies Fenn's reprehensible behaviour, I would like to hear it.

I respect these opinions, mine is different as already outlined - Fenn's lowlife behaviour overshadows any positives in my eyes

In my opinion a "top" player is also a player with integrity and good character.
Fenn could have cured cancer off the pitch and he still wouldn't be within an ass's roar of being a top 3 player at any club he's played for, never mind in the league.

I remember seeing Fenn for Cork away at Djurgardens and he was the stand out player on the pitch. He was very well suited to matches like that but didn't seem too bothered with the week in week out league matches.
For me based on a variety of things
Bisto Flood - a real 110% player - gave everything for us when a lot of local players wouldn't have - delighted that he went on to win a league medal. Ripping it up down under too.
Kevin Hunt - a class player during the "Big Club"'s dominance. Was also a gent off the pitch - I probably spent too much time in the Dalymount bars at the time though!
Gordon Johnson - ex St Francis - small bearded midfielder - much like Bisto he was a real 110% type player - it just struck me from him that he was always delighted to play League of Ireland rather than playing in the Leinster Senior where he'd have probably been a decent player at a good club. I would be surprised if anyone who doesn't know me and remembers me going on about him has any recollection of him!

Bisto was a scorer of great goals and potentially a great goalscorer (at a good level), but he always seemed to moan about something. When he played, he really played. That wonder goal for Galway was just, well, wonderful!

He moaned, but if anyone had a right to, it was usually him. He put the work in.

Barry Kehoe was a great player and character. Good story in Paul MCGrath's autobiography about the two of them on trial at ManU.... Kehoe pushing Ray Wilkins out of the way to take a free when playing for the reserves etc and, after Kehoe is sent home, McGrath saying to himself what chance do I have if they don't want Barry Kehoe!
