One thing that has always amused me with the FAI Cup is the amount of new clubs that have won it within their first five years of gaining entry to the League of Ireland. Especially on their fifth anniversary.
Of the recent members my own club UCD joined in 1979 won it in 1984, Finn Harps 1969 won 1974 and Bray Wanderers joined 1985 and the first team to win the FAI Cup at Lansdowne Road in 1990.

I appreciate that when the LoI was first formed in the early 1920's there are plenty more examples of new clubs winning the Cup. But again recently Derry City (joined 1985, won 1989) and Home Farm (joined as Home Farm- Drumcondra 1972 and won FAI Cup 1975) have been the quickest to pick up the trophy after joining.

Interesting observation. I suppose in a relatively small country and relatively weak league its easier to make a big impact. 'New' clubs are winning stuff all over Europe these days though, it's not just an Irish thing, it's a new money thing.
