Should be interesting. The Guardian are reporting that FIFA have said there will be no replaying of the game. No big surprise there. No mention of Henry. No mention of the match officials. Just a flat no replay.

Why would there be a replay? The ref makes the call on the pitch, he didn't see a handball, the goal stands. If it happened at the other end we wouldn't be calling for a replay.
As for FIFA/UEFA, they engineered the playoffs to get the teams they wanted for sponsors etc.
The players don't seem too bothered. I know some are huffing and puffing now, but I didn't see anyone refusing to shake hands with Henry after the game. They all know they'd have done it if they would have gotten away with it.

just heard on joe duffy that the fai have issued a statement demanding a replay and are citing a precedent where fifa rescinded a result involving uzbekistan in 2005

enough public pressure could put the french in a position where they have to offer to replay

apparently the hacks aren't that bad if they make sense out of this.

the gift grub of a trap press conference is brilliant

"...eh.. I'll just guess..."

looks like he's not calling for a replay.

Fingers Crossed. That Uzbeki game was replayed due to a "referee malfunction" in the original game!

The FAI have to release a statement put pressure on the French Football Federation to OFFER a replay before FIFA have the chance to order one.

i agree the only way there could possibly be a replay would be if the french offered one.

thats how it panned out for that fa cup tie between arsenal and sheff utd. wenger offered to replay out of fairness.

the only way the french can redeem themselves in this is to replay the game.

It appears there is a precedent for replaying play-offs following Fifa's decision to order Uzbekistan's World Cup qualifier against Bahrain to be held again following a dubious refereeing decision.

With a place in a decisive play-off for the 2006 World Cup finals up for grabs, Uzbekistan won the opening leg of their Asian zone play-off 1-0 but they were infuriated by a bizarre incident where a penalty was disallowed for an attacking player encroaching.

Rather than retaking the penalty, a free-kick was awarded to Bahrain. Uzbekistan called for the game to be given to them 3-0, but were left incensed after the match was ordered to be replayed in its entirety due to the technical error by Japanese referee Toshimitsu Yoshida.

Yoshida should have allowed the penalty to be retaken rather then disallowing the goal.

Fifa gave their verdict on the decision to replay the Uzbekistan-Bahrain tie on their official website in 2005 but curiously chose not to mention the controversy surrounding the crucial goal in the France v Republic of Ireland game.

The Uzbekistan v Bahrain was a different case. There, the ref spotted something but applied the wrong decision (the rule had changed the previous month). Something along the lines of ordering a re-take of a missed penalty instead of a goal kick when a second player was inside the box as the kick was taken. Won't hold here.

Think that was replayed due to a technical error though. Ref awarded a free-kick instead of a penalty or vice versa. In this case the officials just didn't see what everyone else saw. Seems FIFA have already anticipated this and said no replay.

France should be kicked out for cheating.

Yes I read about the Uzbekistan example this morning but that won't help us. In that case it seems that the ref gave an indirect free kick instead of giving a penalty retake when the defenders ran into the box early when the original penalty was being taken.

So it was a technical mistake by the ref, he got the rules wrong. In our case it wasn't the same. The ref was there, saw the incident and decided it wasn't a penalty.

1. Play fair
Winning is without value if victory has been achieved unfairly or dishonestly. Cheating is easy, but brings no pleasure. Playing fair requires courage and character. It is also more satisfying. Fair play always has its reward, even when the game is lost. Playing fair earns respect, while cheating only brings shame. Remember: it is only a game. And games are pointless unless played fairly.

He wants a replay, or penalty shootout. I only heard bits of it. My internet was shakey.

He did not ask for a reply. He described that as impossible. He wants FIFA to explain in detail their criteria for the seeding. How Ireland of all the second seeds ended up playing at home in the first leg. He wants FIFA to introduce video technology. he wants to know how FIFA picked this bunch of officials.

Fairly measured press conference from Trap. Fair play, it cuts through all the flailing hysteria that's been flying around.

didn't see/hear the conference but if the above is a fair assement of what he said, him and Brady are at odds with each other. Fair play to Trap,

Chippy is a loose cannon imo and speaks on behalf of himself alot.
