View Full Version : Team For Wednesday
We're still in the tie ...and I don't agree with whoever said the tie is over if France score. If Wednesdays game climbs to 1-1 at any stage in any order it's France who are in the greater peril.
You know, this has given me great hope :) Lionel Ritchie, I don't know whether to curse or salute you !

Same starting lineup anyway according to TV3.
Yeah, confirmed on RTE News there.
There were never going to be drastic changes but I'd love to have seen McGeady. I really could see him winning a penalty or something, feck it anyway.

Can you not see us winning a penalty if McGeady is only used as a sub?
Any other serious (good news) premonitions about?

Get the shooting boots on. Keep the corners away from their keeper. And someone to emerge out of our 11/12/13/14 as a hero forever more. I will go for Duff.

McGeady is lively and would test a weak French Defence, and would at least give us more free kicks in or near the area.. I fear, by the time he comes on, we'll be 1 or 2 down and it'll be too late. Lawerence, whilst a good player, doesn't pull off a dubious tackle like McGeady would. Considering we scored most of our goals from set-pieces, we should be playing for them.
Either way, weirdly and strangely confident..
Reading a few neutral pieces written on the tie and unsurprisingly without writing us off not many give us a realistic chance on wed. France do have the better players, have a significant advantage, home advantage and an excellent home record.
But you just never know, maybe we can frustrate them, maybe the crowd will get on their back, maybe we will nick a goal to square things up, maybe just maybe........where theres hope.....
Im off to bed for the early flight to paris, come on lads, at worse lets give them a real good game. :ball:

McGeady hasn't done particularly well when used as a sub so far, although he did nearly win it in Bulgaria. I think he's the type of player that grows into a game. If he wins a penalty after coming on as a sub I fear it'll be a consolation goal (sorry, you did say good news premonition in fairness). By going with Lawrence I suppose we're safe in the knowledge that Evra won't score a hat-trick, that's always good to know:o

I think if it's 0-0 at half-time and similar situation to Croker Trap should throw on Mcgeady (maybe even for Doyle). 10 mins is not enough time to change a game.
Hopefully we'll get a free near the area for Lawrence to have a go.
Someone told me we didnt get a free kick in their half during the whole game on Sat. amazing if that's true!

McGeady is too so bloody frustrating I can see him being one on one with keeper and just fluffing it..he has never scored for Ireland because he is playing against superior defenders to the type he is used to in the SPL, the best he could do is skip past a fullback and give a lousy end-product. I do think it will be 1-1 we the french to advance on away goal, although I pray 2-1 unlikely but oh what a result if it did happen.

It's clear some of you people have an agenda against Aiden McGeady - must be an anti-SPL thing? The bloke has taken on defences single-handedly any time I've seen him. He doesn't get as many crosses into the danger as he should, but show me someone on Saturday that did?
Look McGeady should play at least 45 mins on Wednesday - nothing against Lawrence, he's quite good actually, but if you're not going to attack them then you can't win the lottery can you? The three likeliest players to open up the French are Duff, Keane and McGeady - no one else has the tools in their toolbox to do it. End of story!

Best & Hunt were woeful when they came on - we need some alternative options than these two on the bench anyway.
Playing Hunt in a completely unaccustomed role on the right hand side , considering he only has a left foot, might have had something to do with that!

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much. In fairness he was a fairly liberal ref who let a lot of physical play go on both sides.

There’s a photo in the “France Ireland photos” thread no less, of Gallas going for a ball behind Kevin Doyle with both feet around Doyle’s head, karate style, have a look at it and question why that was not a free.
From what I can see, they got away with rugby tackles in their own half, and worse.
