UCD lost 2-0 to Longford on the Foster's Avenue pitch yesterday - Pip Keogh and Barry Ferguson scoring for De Town. Wasn't a great match understandably - and the pitch didn't help either! Keogh's goal was a 25-yarder into the bottom corner for which Gallagher didn't move. Only a few minutes earlier, Mad Tom had wandered over (having left his mark on the linesman, as per the post in the eL General forum!) and was asking about our keeper. "I've seen him before...was he with Dundalk?", before going on about how, in the one game he'd seen him, "he was a shocking keeper, he let the ball go and it went into the net, he let it go, against Bray it was, he let the ball go..." Unsurprisingly, he was very quick to point out that he did the same thing for this goal.
There were loads of subs in the second half, and the only goal came from the penalty spot courtesy of Barry "I only choke in competitive matches" Ferguson. UCD created a couple of chances after that, but never really threatened. The best chances we got were as a result of errors by Digger O'Brien in the Longford goal.
Team was -
Gallagher
Gannon
McAuley
McNally
AN Other
Davey
Sullivan
Gaffney
McDonnell
Martin
AN Other
Subs brought on were Quigley, Burke, McWalter, Gallen and, amazingly, Seán Finn! Didn't get to ask after why he was playing for us - must have failed to get a new contract with another club and so is back with us on a much lower contract.
UCD's MOTM was the left-full Gannon, who creamed anything in a red-and-black top and looked good going forward too (when he wasn't fouled). Had a nasty incident in the second half when slide-tackling a large pole in the ground, for which he needed treatment, but looked very good. Quigley in goals looked good, as did Gallen (!). Davey and Sullivan on the wings was interesting and they did okay. Micko and Al Mahon were both at the game but weren't involved - presumably injured, which isn't very encouraging in Mahon's case, as he's now been out nearly a year...
