Bohemians’ super-keeper Brian Murphy will end his time with Bohemians on a new high. He was today (Friday 6th November) called into the Ireland squad for the two World Cup qualifiers against France following the withdrawal of Coventry City’s Keiren Westwood.

Brian Murphy goes into his last game with Bohemians tonight against Bray Wanderers with a remarkable goalkeeping record: 63 clean sheets in 96 games. The 26-year-old will leave Bohemians after the season, joining Roy Keane’s English Championship side Ipswich Town in January. Brian Murphy has previously been capped for Ireland at under-19, under-20 and under-21 levels.

Delighted for him, brilliant news. Now all we need is for one of our gank midfielders to get injured so Fahey can get a call up

Great experience for him, hopefully he won't have to play though, no offence to him. At least he's in the picture for the future anyway.

Its about time if you ask me, Great keeper! if joe murphy was at Bohs i honestly think he would be second choice! Best of luck!

Brilliant. Raises the profile even if he doesnt get within an donkey's roar of the bench.

Well with Paddy 'The Chemist' Kenny otherwise engaged next weekend Trap didn't have too many other options...can't really think of any other Irish keepers playing at a decent level in England so whilst great for Murphy I think its based as much on performance as on limited selection options...!!!

Fair play to Keano...he keeps signing the Irish boys. Thats why the no's on the live register are going down...

Great for him. Suppose he is ahead of Graham Stack (Hibs) which is progress. Fully deserved. Amazing what a proposed move across the water does for an international career :D

Great to see an Eircom league player on the squad. He deserves a chance.

True, but even seeing players called up before moving rather than when they step of the plane is progress of a sort.

Could see him going straight into the Ipswich team because that Wright lad has been doing pish recently.

Lets hope it doesn't go to penos or he might have to nut Thierry Henry ;)

Couldn't have called him up BEFORE he signed for a foreign club?

No, I suppose not, (hope you can feel the fuming anger under these words)

Pleased for Boh's Keeper mind; just that it's so long overdue

That lad Wright has been **** since he signed for Arsenal in 1998...why Supple legged it is beyond me...

it's great news but his contract ends tonight after the Bray game
so is it correct to say he will be unattached when those two internationals will be played? he won't be a bohs player anymore and is not yet with Ipswich

I'd be perfectly happy to see him play. He's easily good enough.

who was the last Bohemians player to be capped? Wasn't Crowe and Byrne with Shels when they were capped by Kerr and McCarthy?

Absolutely terrific news. Even if he doesn't get near the bench, to be part of the squad will give him the confidence that he belongs there.

No, Crowe won 2 Ireland caps during his first stint with Bohs. He started in a friendly away to Greece in 2002 (when Don Givens was caretaker manager), then made a late sub appearance in a friendly at home to Norway in 2003 (when Kerr was manager). Prior to that, he had also been in the squad for qualifiers against Portugal and Estonia when McCarthy was in charge. All of that was during his first spell with Bohs (which ran from 1999-2004).

Byrne, however, was with Shelbourne when he won his 2 caps (the first in 2004 under Kerr, the second in 2006 under Staunton).

PS: Bohs have also had players capped by other countries in recent years.

In the Ukraine, with FC Metlaurh Zaporizhya. No, I'd never heard of them either.

I think hes back in Lithunia or playing in Ukraine. He scored Lithuania's last goal in the qualifiers I think aswell as a goal against Romania earlier in the group, not a bad player at all. Boco would be another player capped regularly by his country (hard to leave him out considering he's captain and all :D).

Fairplay to Brian Murphy for getting called up for the Ireland squad.
Great news for the LOI.

I just want Given in there, wasn't suggesting Murphy wasn't good enough. If Given were out I wouldn't have any particular problem with him playing ahead of Joe Murphy.
