Was just wondering about the singing section in the Davin Stand, singing a song in EB's honour as team comes out at the start ?

Am i right in saying(correct me if im wrong ) that EB was trying to get the "We follow We follow" chant used in ireland games?

Any suggestions for songs to sing ?

It would be great tribute to EB if the whole stadium started singing a football song at the game , a song that would support the team but also a footballsong that was close to EB's heart

opinions and/or suggestions welcome and appreciated

Tks:

Would agree wholeheartedly with a chant at the game as well
he used to sing ó ró sé do bheatha abhaile away from home

All the items flags bricks and boards leagues are greeat genuine tributes

Yep - if you do a search you'll find the whole discussion on this in the fans forum. I'm sure the technology is there to convert his youtube video into a format that could be shown on the big screen at Croker. Maybe fading his photo in somewhere in the video. Think it would be a great tribute to him .. and it would be fulfilling a wish of his.

Please note the edits to the first post in this thread:

EDIT: If you'd like to post condolences, please do so on eirebhoy's profile (http://foot.ie/forums/member.php?u=2096).

Also note that discussion of the circumstances of eirebhoy's death is not allowed on Foot.ie at this time. We may allow it later, but not for at least a few weeks.

I'll tot up the donations later but last I looked it was €870. I'll leave it open until Monday morning.

For the record, the total up to yesterday was €971.70, from 63 donations. It doesn't include my donation, which will be the cost of PayPal fees (€55.70 up to now), plus a few quid. Well done to everyone that donated over the weekend. Again, I'll leave it open until Monday morning for people that weren't around the last few days.

That's great. I'll contribute when I get paid on Thursday, hopefully they'll be a few more in the same boat but it's an excellent total regardless.

Probably just me, but I had a fair bit of trouble using that, dunno if I put my password in wrong or not but nothing seemed to happen before, anyway I managed to 'get through' eventually, then it seems my debit card has expired!
I don't recall them sending me a new one, so I will have to sort that out before I get arrested in Sainsburys.
Anyway I used my credit card no with problem so that's sorted now.

With only a week to go to the first game - Is it still possible to get a flag done in time or are we holding off on that idea?

Paul,

We went with 4M X 3M for logistical reasons. Anything bigger is a nightmare to get displayed in modern stadia.

Is there anything further about a minutes applause and tribute on the screen at Croker for the home game?

Thanks to everyone that donated. The final total was a very generous €1,086.70, with fees of €61.63 that I'll cover. €411.48 (£360GBP) has been spent so far, on a flag.

I'll leave eirebhoy's profile open for one more week.

Just received a reply from Gerry McDermott in the FAi after I tried contacting him again. Here are the details.

Thank you for your email. I forwarded it on to your Communications Department who look after the match programme and they intend including a tribute to Gearóid in the publication for the France match.

Subject: Gearoid Walsh

I've been passed your email address by a fellow Ireland fan. You may or may not be aware of the tragic passing of 23 year old Gearoid Walsh recently in Sydney the victim of an assault that left him critically ill before he passed away.

http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/1030/walshg.html

I knew Gearoid only because he was one of the main contributers to both foot.ie and boards.ie - two football sites dedicated to the support of the Irish international team and the LOI clubs. These sites provide a forum for thousands of the most die hard Ireland and LOI supporters to air their views and Gearoid who went by the name of Eirebhoy on the sites was one of the most respected and regular posters. In addition he was also one of a very small handful of moderators on foot.ie.

He was a dedicated Ireland and Celtic fan. His optimism and positivity knew no bounds. He adored Aiden McGeady. His passing leaves our boards feeling all the more empty. Anyway I'm just sending this mail as I feel there should be some tribute to him at the next Ireland game as his contributions will be missed by many hundreds of the most loyal Ireland supporters. Celtic held a tribute to him before their game last Saturday week. Here are some of the many, many messages fans have left about him since we learned of his passing:

Good work. nice to get something into the programme. They don't seem to be into the idea of a minute's silence or applause or a picture on the screens, is it worth mailing agfain do people think? I've no problem mailing Gerry McDermott on it if people think it's a good idea. I assume Gearoid's family are okay with this given what happened at Parkhead.

email away.

There might be someone putting a video together who will have something at the end with EB on it. Ive passed on alan miltons detail from croker but he reckons its all outsourced to another company on the day and its down to the FAI what appears on screen.

Hi,Lads

Just wondering what the chances are of having the flag in time for the game on Saturday?

Drumcondra 69er
12/11/2009, 5:43 PM
Gerry McDermott was kind enough to mail me back but no big screen tribute possible. Gearoid's family are attending as guests of the FAI though so maybe it would be overstepping the mark if we had something arranged that they weren't involved with. A rendition of 'We love you, we love you...' will have to be our tribue from the singing section!

Good evening Mr. McDermott,

I'm sorry to bother you, I was given your e mail by a fellow member of the Irish football forum foot.ie. I understand that you replied to him and let him know that there would be a tribute going in to the programme in respect of Gearoid Walsh the young Irish fan who was tragicly killed in Sydney a few weeks ago. This is a fantastic gesture and is much appreciated by all who knew Geariod through the forum.

You may be aware that Gearoid was also a massive Celtic fan (in particular of Aiden McGeady!) and that Celtic had a tribute put up on their big screen in memory of Gearoid before theire recent game against Kilmarnock, you can see a photo of it at the below link.
http://kerrydalestreet.co.uk/single/?p=8884582&t=8216966

A large number of fans were wondering if it would be possible to do something similar on the screens along with a minutes applause in his memory before the game on Saturday? Gearoid was a huge fan who loved nothing better then following Ireland home and away, indeed one of the things that was bothering him about moving to Australia for work was that he wouldn't be able to attend the games anymore. It would be a fitting tribute to a great supporter if this could be done.

I appreciate your time in reading this mail. Fingers crossed for the right results over the next 7 days!

Many thanks,

Gerry McDermott to me

Thank you for your email and your kind comments re the tribute to Gearóid appearing in the France match programme.

Unfortunately we are not in a position to accommodate your request.

However, you may be interested to know that Gearóid’s family will be at the game as guests of the Football Association of Ireland and are happy with our intention to honour his memory in the match programme.

Hopefully we will have a lot to cheer about over the next week and on behalf of the Association I would like thank you and your fellow supporters for the great backing they have given the team over the course of this qualifying campaign.

Many thanks,

Gerry

Kudos to Ash for getting a snap of the flag in the Stade.

The middle tier was too narrow to properly hang it, we did our best though

went down to the 5 a side tournament this morning in Ringsend as a single applicant, and ended up on a team with a lad who was in college with eirebhoy.
Wasn't the best weather for football, wind and rain, but I'm glad I did it.

nice to see the memorial flag from foot.ie and ybig.ie in attendance as well, thanks to whoever brought it

Pretty good, 7 players per team (5 + 2 subs), 3 groups of 4 teams, and one group of 3, so I think about 105?
His mother and sister were supposed to attend, but I don't know if they did or not.
The weather was pretty miserable, and my team went out after the group stages, so I didn't stick around to see how the rest of the tournament went
