we are well ahead of pats and galway on goal difference too so thats another bonus. great win for us tonight. raf has to get player of the month for this month he has scored a lot of goals of late. i pray he is with us next year. great too see boco score too he deserves a goal for all his hard work.

Fantastic set of results. We have got to build on this including Retain Cretaro Campaign. He deserves better than Shams anyway. Others who left for what they thought might have been better LOI teams ended up with pay being withheld etc. The Bit O Red is more than a team but we need to be ambitious

Keep up the hard work, no complacency

to top off the delight of the result in Derry and another Raf goal was the news from Tallaght that O'Neill the t*at and his Shams were beaten!!!...agree about keeping Raf but i wonder if we stay up and IF(and i mean if!!) things go well in the cup why would he want to leave anyway?

$$$$ - simple as. although i agree the grass isnt always greener on the other side. he has lived around sligo most of his life and to up and move to dublin where he wont be the main man might not suit him. he is quality though and i wouldnt begrudge him a move, pity though we wont get any money for him!!

i have been watching his attitude the past few weeks and if he was staying there is no doubt he would be kissing the badge with delight after some of the goals he has scored, but that hasnt been coming and i think there is something behind that.......... in fairness he has contributed as much as anyone to keeping us up (hopefully), and i cant say a bad word against him!

€€€€€'s and the chance to win the league. Not having a go at the lad because he has been fantastic for us but I think it will depend on how many of this team stay next season and if we retain a full time set up. Would be hard to disagree if he decided to go. Alot will depend on what kind of a team we have next year.
Anyway lets forget about that and enjoy what has been a great run of results and hopefully another one next Friday night.

Great post. Couldnt agree more.
Hopefully we do Hold on to Raf, the grass isnt always greener on the other side.
As for the Bit O'Red being more than a team, it could be so much bigger with a little bit more ambition.

Rovers and the people that run the show are a credit to Sligo.
When you are going to work, school or college tomorrow morning what national news coverage will Sligo get on the radio, newspapers or TV - none, apart from Rovers. What mention will say Carlow get, a similar sized town/county -none. Rovers put/keep Sligo on the map.

if he is offered 1500 + a week he will go cos no way we can match that. he will prob be offered 2k or more and with the country in recession ya wouldnt stand in his way if he really wanted to go but it prob not about money with raf he prob wants a chance at playing at the top and challanging for a title because im sure the lad craves ambition. every player wants to be the best and win trophies. in all honesty apart from the cup we cant offer him that. if he decided to go i for one would congratulate him and wish him all the best he has been a great servant but saying all that i wish and pray and beg him to stay........ we need to keep the local lads and he will be sadly missed as has turned into one of the best strikers to grace the showgrounds. please stay raf your county needs you !!!

Shams have to beat pats now. The best thing about tonights results is we dont need to go to bohs and win. A win in our last home game will be enough. Cant see pats getting too many more points.

fair enough lads...maybe i was just giving him too much credit..that maybe he wasnt soley motivated by money and as a local lad some things might be more important..IF we were to stay up and IF IF IF we won the cup and had European football again i think there would be no better Club to be at..a few additions and a fully fit squad all season and we should be challenging at the other end of the table.

In the present climate no club will be offering any player €1500 - €2000 a week. League will change big time next season as regards wages.

Magic win tonight, a huge boost going into the cup semi final now on Friday night. Cracking freek kick by Boco, i thought in the second half we battled very hard to take the 3 points and finished very strong. I thought we had a a far better shape about ourselves in the second half, Keane was superb and Boco, Cretaro and O'Grady all had good second halfs as well as most. If we play like that we will beat Waterford and go to the final, players are so close now.

Shams a currently second in the league with a mostly part time squad. We have a full time squad. Why could we not compete?

Delighted..get that up you Peter Hutton!....again! Derry were **** poor, we did what had to be done, though Keane and Danny V were excellent, although we were poor down the left again.

Anyone know the last time we won twice in one season at The Brandywell?

Shams are only part-time through a technicality. They train full time and are paid resonable wages (not crazy wages, like we've seen in the past). I've no doubt they could afford to offer Raf €1.5k a week. They are probably the most stable team in the league and €1500 a week would be good value for money if he scored as many goals next season as this.

Fantastic result, Well done to the BOR -all we need now is for the junkies and/or the krusties to fck up and we are safe - best to win our own games to be sure though!

lets now enjoy a cup game like it should be enjoyed - without the pressure of our league status hanging over us!

i wouldnt think graham barrett is on small money !!! definetly in the 1500 a week category or maybe more. and as for thinking we could challenge for the league i would love to see it but be realistic we have not got a huge budget and we are fighting relegation. it kills me to say it but we are a feeder club. we turn good players better and then big teams take them off us. look at hughes and faz situation in the past. remember its not that long ago the club tried to offload boco to derry to get the wages down !!!! unless we can fill the shrowgrounds every week will wont have the funds to challenge for the title.

Yes, but that was when clubs like Drogheda and Bohs were overspending, those days are gone. If Raf leaves i think it will be about more than just money. There are only 2 financially sound clubs at the moment and neither of them will spend money they dont have, Sligo and Shams. Of those would would have to say Shams will be able to offer bigger wages.

this time last year i feared the team breaking up like so many successful teams in our past. this year i fear the same but its a bit different this time with so many of the bigger clubs in dire straits financially. If raf and peers leave we are half the team we currently are.

Alan Keane was superb last night- derry had not one worthwhile shot on goal in the 2nd half. Bocos free kick was from the very top drawer and will be a contender for goal of the month.

Great piece of comedy by raf as he went to take a quick free before boco scored and smiled up at the fans just to rub the cup defeat in.

I was a bit disappointed by the rovers support after the last few away games but in reflection it was probably mostly the dublin based fans that were missing.

Roll on friday night but dont get complacent, waterford will be hard to break down and despite a couple of bad league results recently , they will definitely raise their game for a cup semi final on tv. Lets rock the showgrounds with noise.

What is that technicality?
A lot of their players hold down full time jobs. They can only train in the evening.

Just had a look at the game. Yees were 100% full value for your win. Goal of the month from Boco for sure. As for the cup game - get your fans to keep their clothes on otherwise RTE will have to move kick-off to after the watershed.:D
