View Full Version : Ireland v Argentina
I heard Jimmy Magee talking about a friendly match we played against Argentina in Dublin one time. He said that Maradona played and that the FAI wouldn't recognise it as a full international for some reason. Apparantly no caps were awarded.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Know when it was? Why it was deemed illigit?
Thanks
derek

Game was in 1979 in aid of UNICEF. We drew 0-0. We also met them in 1980 and Maradona played and we lost 1-0. 79 is not recognized as an official International - don't know why.
Game mentione dby a previous poster wa sprobably 98 where we lost 2-0 at home. We also played them in 1951 and lost 1-0 at home. An LoI side went to Argentina and lost 3-1 v the then world champs circa 1980.
