Quay Celtic 0 -3 Monaghan United

In their first away game of the season Monaghan United under 12’s made it 2 wins out of 2 when they defeated Quay Celtic in the DSL last Sunday. From the outset United were on top form with Micheál Bannigan going close from a corner kick. With just over 10 minutes gone Jamie Mc. Carey broke the deadlock when he scored the first of United’s goals with a great solo effort. United continued to attack the Quay defence with Conor Leonard and Michael Bannigan causing them problems and it wasn’t long before United hit the back of the Quay net when Bannigan scored the 2nd goal-his first of the season. Going in 2-0 up at the interval United looked very comfortable.
In the 2nd. half United continued to pile on the pressure looking for the 3rd goal. With just under 10 minutes to go substitute Stephen Creighan supplied this 3rd.goal when he played a one-two with Rory Slater to beat the advancing keeper.
This was another sound performance from a young side. We saw some great defending from the back four of Aaron Mc. Nally, Paul Hickey, Stephen Kelly and Ryan Drayne to the mid-field of Jamie Mc. Carey, Shane Mc. Mahon, Kevin Sheridan and Stephen Finnegan to the striking force Conor Leonard and Micháel Bannigan.
All of the panel were used including the subs Josh Kelly, James Owens, Rory Slater, Stephen Creighan and Dylan mc. Nally. Another fine display was shown by United’s goal-keeper Darragh Hannon when he made a great save to keep Quay at bay.
Man of the match this week is Jamie Mc. Carey for a great goal and a fine performance all-round.
