Poor performance last night. We started 4-4-2 with Robert Vickers wiide right and Gareth McCurtain in centre-mid in place of the suspended Patsy and Shane. Athlone started the brighter and should have scored in the first minute when Packie pulled off a point-blank save from an Athlone forward who found loadsaspace in the box. Athlone then had a few more half-chances as the first half went on and finally got their deserved goal in the last minute of the half when a right-wing cross found Magee standing on his own who headed the ball inside the right-hand post. Vickers stuck a few crosses in from the right in the firsthalf but can't remember a shot on target.

Wexford started a little better in the second but soon faded and Athlone then took over and got the second when a cross from the left evaded both the first attacker and first defender leaving Magee a simple tap-in. On both sides of the second goal Packie pulled off two good saves when one-on-one, the second a real cracker. Aust, Kenny and Broaders came on as subs midway through the second but apart from two speculative shots, we nevered created anything. Sinny got sent off (second yellow for dissent) right at the end.
Overall, very disappointing and only other factor seemed to be that the pitch looked very lively but same for both sides, of course. Except for Packie, could have been four or five.

Last night was the worst performance i've seen all season.
If i could only erase it from my memory!

Anyone thing the inconsistency is down to Wallace's previous managerial experience all being in cup competition?
He's brilliant at getting the team set up for one off big games, hence the results against the top four, but he has yet to figure out how to build momentum in the team and to get them playing week in, week out, against average opposition. To go from best performance of the season to worst in the space of four days is baffling.

yeah good fun in the stand shame about the match though always happens play really well then cannot string two passes together think some of what passing interest has said may well be spot on but not all fault lies the management players just looked like wanted to be some where else

Special mention must go to Gary Sheehan's father's 8 week old pup at the match, the only memorable thing about the game...

We were absolutely dire. We made Athlone look like Spain and only for Packie Holden they could have scored eight or nine. We'll do well to hang onto fifth playing like that.
