I can't seem to find the dates of the play offs for the W.C. qualification on the FIFA website. Can somebody post them up here. Sometime in Nov. anyway.

Good afternoon

Was wondering can someone claify something for me. There is a bit of debate going on in work today. I know Ireland are not in this situtation , but what if when all games are played in the groups and there is a second and thrid team on the same level of points in one particular group.
Who goes through ?
Im aware goal difference home , away etc come into consideration, however some bloke stated it then goes on who beat the last team of the group ?

Can someone please advise on this

ps: 15 Days till the Italians :-)

It'll be decided by the two Country's managers playing Paper/Scissors/Stone in a best of three play-off (neutral venue of course)

if I recall correctly it is something like

goal difference

goals scored

direct match points

direct match results incl away goals

then something like fair play.

anyway it won't affect us. If we end up in a GD situation with Bulgaria we'll most likely lose out. 1 win or 2 draws guarantees us 2nd and a playoff. If we can't manage that we are wasting our time in the playoffs anyway.

Was just going through the groups at lunch checking who ryanair and airlingus fly direct too. I know its not clean cut who will make the play offs but for arguments sake checked out flights for both dates (14 + 18 Nov )for majority of teams in second place and close thirds, countries like Swedan, Latvia,France, Norway and Crotia are very reasonable to get too. Air Baltic fly direct from Dublin on the dates above to many of the countires currently in second place now.

Im just brutal at getting it right went half way round the world to get to cypurs 32 hours travelling since I left my house before i even got there ! And Sofia wasnt much better !

On the Friday ( think its the 16th ) Oct when the draw is done, wld someone who will be going please P.M me the best and stress free route , ill be at the laptop with the ole Credit Card that MBNA are currently hunting me down for ready to book

The draw is on Monday 19th.

I think FIFA will renege on their promise not to seed the draw. This means we are likely to get one of Croatia, France, Russia and Portugal. Russia would be a nightmare not to mind expensive visas at short notice (main reason Pats fans didn't travel in any numbers). Football wise th eothers would all be tough but at least reachable.

Best to keep an eye on the FIFA website as those of us who will be going will be scrambling to book ourselves.

Does anyone have any idea what time on the 19th the draw will be, chuffing well working 12-8 that day & i'll hada sneak out;) for a while to get booking. Knowing my luck UEFA/FIFA will say 12 but with all their shenanigans surounding draws they'll probably get round to doing it at 17.00:rolleyes:

Also will the home and away team be decided as part of the draw or is this confirmed at a later date?

Link to information has been deleted. And doubtless when FIFA 'fix' the draw, it will be to give the seeds their home legs as the second game.
Given the alternatives, if they're runners-up, France or Sweden would be the best option for a team like Ireland, if we reach the play-offs?

If they had any sense, they'd fix it for Ireland to get there, as even during these economically depressed times, we'd actually take a fair few fans to SA. Well more than the competition?

It is not down to the number off ans though. France and Portugal couldn't sell their ticket allocation for a world cup semi final in Europe yet FIFA want them both with a couple of hundred Portuguese fans and a couple of dozen French fans in tow. It is down to tv, sponsorship and marketing.

France is a huge country but many major multinationals. They have a big tv audience. Portugal have Ronaldo who will generate huge hype. Sure 10,000+ Irish fans will help but in reality we are a small country and don't matter to FIFA.

I know GS.

Was being tongue-in-cheek, well slightly.

France, Russia and Portugal are all bigger markets, but don't forget the diaspora and that by default, we're an English-speaking country so more 'market potential' there.

During the draw I think

"We have decided on seeding the teams into two groups of four, taking the Fifa world rankings into account, with the top four in one pot and the others in another pot," Blatter said. "There will be a separate draw to decide home and away," he added of the two-leg ties to determine four European places at the 2010 finals in South Africa.
