I seen Aslan play here in Galway during the Volvo Ocean Race last May,they were excellent.Blizzards played here too a couple of years ago when they first started out, good too, should be a lively event.Hope the weather holds up for ye.
Something similar was tried in Terryland Park 2 years ago but was cancelled due to lack of interest, the headline acts were The Houthouse Flowers and The Walls(The Stunning) if i remember correctly.Hope ye have better luck.

well its on the same weekend of the cork jazz feztival which traditionally has good weather, and i think a lot of people stay away from the city due to them not liking the jazz, so hopefully itll work to our advantage

No offence but your starting to talk out your hole DR.

I'm sorry but there is a reason there is a jazz festival in Cork...........because the people of Cork like jazz.
The amount of people from Cobh who like jazz is unbelievable hence the reason the Rob Roy started up the Cobh Blues weekend (on this weekend by the way) and subsequently the formation of the Cobh Blues Club.
This will work but not because people don't like jazz. It will work if it's organised and ran properly.
Also I think it needs to be run in conjunction with the Jazz festival.....by that I mean when there's advertising for the jazz, for example: leaflets, booklets, etc....it needs to have advertising for our event.

so you want to advertise jazz at a concert that is on the same weekend the jazz weekend, whos blowing smoke up whos ass,

the city is packed normally anyway and especially packed the jazz weekend due to the massive surge of traffic through cork airport, not due to the people of cork liking jazz, jazz has a following no doubth but its not as big as you make it out, its on just to have something different

its like the cork week in crosshaven, so all the normal folks can feel nice and posh with the poshies of crosshaven

or the marquee, dacades festival, comedy week, etc etc, not everyone likes them all, its called variation

Hang on a second. There is a reason i'm standing up for the jazz weekend DR because since I was 3 years of age. Thats 17 years! I've gone to Cork on the jazz weekend with my family to enjoy the jazz and believe me it is absolutely massive and extremely popular and i'd go as far to say that its bigger than Cork Week which I will admit is for the poshies but as for the jazz being posh you are wrong!

17 years i've been going to the jazz festival and would you call me posh?
Just cause you don't like jazz doesn't mean it's crap and unpopular. It is probably the biggest grossing event in Cork along with Cork week which is why Aslan and The Blizzards should be advertised in conjunction with the Jazz Festival otherwise the concert will be an EPIC FAILURE because you are competing with the BIGGEST festival in Cork!

i didnt say the jazz was full of poshies, i said cork week is full of poshies, i dont think that aslan and the blizzards have a jazz connection, that why i dont see any reason to advertise it otherwise,

i did not say jazz was crap, i wouldnt say something is crap cause i dont like it, due to the fact of me sounding like an idiot, i said that a lot of people dont like jazz, which a lot dont, its not untrue,

what i should have said so is that this is on so people have an alternative choice if they dont like the jazz, as most people who do like the jazz will be at jazz events,

and believe me i wont ever be saying rambler14 and posh in the same sentence ever again, starting now:D

heard of that song alright, cheers DR. Have to agree with R14 re promotion of this event as we could have another Boyzone fiasco on our hands,if this isnt run properly it will bury the club for good and to be honest with the people involved i wouldnt be too confident but then again

:) NO need to worry 6yardpunisha - concert IS GOING AHEAD NEXT FRIDAY, contrary to reports in yesterdays Echo. :)

Everything has been given the green light and its all in place for a great day/evening/night on Friday.

Looking forward to Aslan but more so the Blizzards! :D

and the echo jumps the gun again, why dont the report things like this when theres a massive concert with 50000 people attending, some of them dont get permission till 2 weeks before its due to happen, lazy journalism the #1 reason NOT to buy the echo

rambler14

It was in the court section not the sports section and it featured an small interview with our noble chairman who said that he hoped the club can obtain the licence not that they have obtained the licence which is why the issue of the licence has been raised in recent days.

Its like this punisha, as of yesterday and time of print of the echo, there was some issue(planning?) with the concert, so nobody was telling lies - ... and as of today and the timing of my post all has been rectified and concert is going ahead! . . . - again no lies being told.

So now you have he 'ins & outs' of it.

CONCERT IS ON - HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

No need to worry. Anyway, how worried can a person get about €20

big headline in echo last night

In fairness. It was nothing more than a sub-heading

club wont know if it can go ahead until next wednesday

Almost correct.

I haven't seen the complete Echo but I did read the article yesterday. I believe it was in the 'Courts' section. Must have been a slow day. I also believe the article was penned by a guy who wasn't even in the Court that day. Loking back on the articles content the guys states:

Ramblers had 4500 at the Cork City game earlier this year. Wrong. That match took place on 29th March 2008 (18 mths ago), which was probably the last time said reporter was in Cobh.

Objections raised by redidents: Wrong. No residents in Count to object to application and no objections officially received by local Gardai from the date the gig details were released right up to the court application hearing.

Won't know until 48hrs beforehand if they get the licence. Technically right but Wrong. Could have been written better. Licence was granted, but planning needed to be looked at if there would be more than 5000 in attendence. That will not be the case and it's just a matter of returning t cout to hear the Man say ok.

People could sit here all day and pull that Echo article to pieces it's that bad.

Like DonRamo says ''
lazy journalism the #1 reason NOT to buy the echo

All local bodies and authorities are fully supportive and 100% behind the gig which is great to see. Ramblers were also issued with a full Music & Dance licence.
