Heard a story last week about an ex-LOI player who was lifted by the Gardai about 6-8 weeks ago with 1/2 a million worth of drugs in his boot. now obviously this is a serious thing and dont know how true it is so i'm not going to mention names etc. Apperently he has been refused bail because of the runner another ex-LOI player did a while back.
Has anyone else heard anything like this?

Appreciate that people so far are keeping names out of this by the way; if anyone does start speculating without links, the posts will be deleted for obvious reasons!
Edit - really obvious clues count as naming as well, especially if google can throw back an answer in 30 seconds.

If someone is caught with 1/2 million euro worth of drugs in their car surely it's in a news article somewhere online?

I doubt the name has been in print yet and would advise against anyone posting it here. Innocent until proven guilty etc etc. Very serious issue and not appropriate for discussion here.

I think a keeper we had in the 94/95 title winning side is either awaiting trial or currently inside. Ps we had 2 keepers that year and it wasn`t Jody Byrne.

I remembered that, I thought this was different with the 6-8 weeks mention.

Why would the actions of one ex-LOI player in respect of bail have any impact upon the bail hearing of another ex-LOI player ?? Surely it would have more to do with the likelihood of jumping the state - which is unconnected to someone's previous employment (unless they were a private airplane pilot or something that made jumpign state ridiculously easy).
I'm sure judges appreciate that LOI players aren't a distinct breed or race..... :)
not wishing to get technical but you can freely name anyone here seeing as the defamation, libel, slander laws etc do not cover internet or new media etc. i know that from my law classes in my masters in journalism. do having said that it is best to err on the side of caution

Putting allegations in writing about a named individual can constitute libel. There's always people willing to complain to dahamsta (as site owner) about stuff like that (much less than that, in fact). I don't care what journalists have been telling you (I rarely listen to them at the best of times), naming names is not on.
Edit - Dublin man jailed for internet libel (http://merlin.obs.coe.int/iris/2000/2/article31.en.html), 1999.

Media law is a thorny bushel of grey areas and trip wires in which it is best to take nothing for granted. Throwing names around speculatively - whether in a newspaper or on some internet forum - is not a good call.
