The head of the Government Information Service, Mandy Johnston, said she was offended by an article in The Star, which referred both to her and to Mandy Rice-Davis, a call-girl whose affair with British Conservative MP John Profumo led to the collapse of the Tory government in the 1960s.

She was described as "the Longford lass" and "Bertie Ahern's batgirl" who was "beavering away" on Fianna Fáil's behalf.

She attempted to sue Independent Star Ltd and journalist John Donlon for alleged libel arising out of the article.

Roscommon originally, but ran in the old Longford - Westmeath... represented Dublin in his last 7 or 8 years.

Don't think so, only stepped down at the last election to allow master Buckfast seller Peter Kelly take his seat in Longford/Roscommon....

I know, but you said he represented Dublin his last few years - he was Longford-Westmeath, and then Longford-Roscommon, then off to several board rooms.... Dublin doesn't enter it....

In his last term he had his monkey Doherty knocking around on his behalf while he sold his longford residence and moved to Dublin full-time... I was only mocking the fact that he was a Long-Ros TD...;)
