What do all the Hunt knockers think about his technique for the goal?

Noelys Guitar

Dunne and Given would be worth an extra 10 points to Wolves and I can see Mick trying to buy both as well as Long. Not sure Long will leave Reading (who I expect to win the play off) but Given and Dunne might both move.

Not just the goal but the free kick as well (which he also won).

Looks very much like Houllier will be forced to quit so I'd expect Dunne to stay at Villa. Himself and Collins closed out the season pretty well. Considering how good their partnership was under O'Neill i would expect an incoming manager to want to keep them both

Funny reading the Wolves forum!!

One of the worst performances I´ve ever seen.

Utter disappointment. They should be ashamed..I´m gutted!

Utter, utter garbage. We deserve relegation with a performance like this. The players have been a total and utter disgrace today. They've been made to look awful by Blackburn FFS, not $#@!ing Man Utd...

Dear God, this is sick.

I feel sick

They've got a point. Avoid losing by 2 goals and you're 99% certain to stay up.

What do they do? Go 3-0 down at HT!

Mick got lucky.

And the tide has turned full circle, Wolves stayed up with a last minute goal to spare :)

Glad Wolves have stayed up but I read somewhere that the chairman might be looking to replace Mick regardless of the seasons outcome. Being 3-0 at home at half time in the biggest game of the season won't fill anyone with confidence for next season. If he does stay he needs to replace most of his defence.

What's the situation with Stearman declaring for us? Is he up to it really? I can tell from the stats that Wolves' defence has been shocking all season and, although I haven't seen them really other than the odd game or highlights reel, they have looked poorly organised any time I've seen them. One memory I have of Stearman is of him racing down the field with the ball Joe Lapira-style before his haste caused him to trip over himself and fall flat on his face, the ball rolling onward and out of play.

Dunno where you're getting your info from....

http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/mccarthys-motivation-magic-key-to-wolves-bid-to-stay-in-the-top-flight-2652918.html

"Yet, on Sunday, McCarthy is buoyed by the devotion of his players and the respect of his chairman and owner Steve Morgan, a man who takes advantage of free access to the Wolves dressing-room to make periodic rallying cries -- but never at cost to his manager's rapport with his players.

"From time to time, a club gets into difficulties on the field and has to fight for survival, but I've never doubted Mick McCarthy's ability to inspire his players," says the owner who once tried to gain control of his home town club Liverpool. "He has their respect -- and their determination to get out of this situation."

Wolves' owner Morgan could hardly have offered more reassurance on the approach to the Blackburn game, saying, "Mick has been here five years and I don't believe you get any progress by chopping and changing. That's happened in other clubs and what good has it done? There are times when things don't go right, but you have to stick together and make sure you get it right next time.

"I think that's what we've done. Mick has made progress every year since I came here four years ago. If you go to the dressing-room before the game and see the rapport between Mick and the players, you will see theirs is a proper spirit between the manager and the players.

"In my first year we missed the play-offs by a goal, the next we won the championships and, in the third, year we established ourselves in the Premier League. This time we are two points ahead of last season, despite being in a relegation battle.""

Stearman and Berra have been left out of the last few games of the season and, until today, they've improved their defensive record.

It was this one:

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/notw/nol_sport/1291914/Wolves-manager-Mick-McCarthy-is-battling-to-save-his-job-at-Molineux.html

"MICK McCARTHY will have to fight for his job even if he keeps Wolves in the Premier League.

McCarthy faces showdown talks with owner Steve Morgan even if he can spark a great escape, starting with the derby against West Brom today.

Morgan is said to be unhappy with the team's recent performances and worried about McCarthy's negative attitude.

Multi-millionaire Morgan is also frustrated that, despite investing heavily, his team has struggled all season.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jamie O'Hara is facing up to the possibility of his second relegation in two seasons while on loan.

Last term O'Hara failed to save Portsmouth from the drop. But the Spurs man believes Wolves are better placed to pull themselves clear of trouble.

"It wasn't very close- knit at Portsmouth," he said. "There were different managers, loanees and a lot of stuff going on off the pitch. It's different here because everyone sticks together"

Apparently it would have been a hat-trick of relegation for Stephen Hunt if Wolves had gone down!!
http://sports.xin.msn.com/barclays-premier-league/article.aspx?cp-documentid=4861917&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

But Stephen Hunt handed the fans what they thought was a lifeline with an equaliser just three minutes from time, although Spurs' win meant Wolves would have stayed up in any event.

"I am thrilled and I am very proud of the players," McCarthy said. "I am shattered physically and emotionally. I went through the wringer. I feel like I should be dancing up and down with my knickers on my head. I can't do that, because I have to stay professional, but that is how I feel.

"I said all along that it would come down to May 22 and it might even be goal difference or goals scored. I do not even know the exact outcome. All I knew at the end of the game was that we had stayed up."

Hunt's goal was potentially worth 50 million -- the value to Wolves of staying in the Premier League -- and helped the Republic of Ireland midfielder avoid an unwanted relegation hat-trick of English top flight after he'd previously gone down with both Reading and Hull City.

"At half-time, I couldn't look the manager in the eye," Hunt said. "I don't think anyone could. We didn't know what to say.

"We were down in the dumps but Mick got us going again with his team talk.

"It was the most stressful day of my football career. I'll enjoy the moment," he added.

"The couple of goals we got were vital because it changed the way other teams had to play. Birmingham had shut up shop and then they had to go for it in the end and got beat.

"I heard the fans singing 'we need one more goal' and I don't think I have hit a more sweet shot or a more important one. We were mentally strong."

Just got to say thats a pretty clueless statement by that article. If Hunt hadn't scored there would have been no need for Birmingham to throw caution to the wind in search of the winner so they wouldn't have been caught on the counter and the game would more than likely have finished 1-1 if Hunt hadn't scored.

Totally agree, Birmingham were having to throw everyone forward including their keeper at one point, when the goal was scored they only had 4 defenders back against 5 spurs forwards.

Delighted for Mick. His players really worked their socks off for him this season. However he will need to get in a few decent defenders if he wants to start moving up that table.

Delighted to be wrong, i really saw them going down about 15 games ago, luck has kept them up really. Have to say wigan and blackburn did what they needed and although i didn't want them to stay up you have to give them credit for doing it on the last day when required.

CD mentioned before when i said mick should have put some money up for 2 decent CDs, that there weren't any available, that is just wrong, there are always players available, you need money probably, but you need good contacts and a good scouting network too. Mccarthy needs to sort that out, or they deserve to go back down next year. He is very blind to certain situations.

How have they invested heavily, bar doyle, hunt and fletcher (costing 6, 5, 6 mil i believe) who have they invested heavily in, mick has done wonders bringing up some of those players.....instant gratification these owners want.

Bit harsh saying it was luck, they only lost 2 of their last 6 and picked up thw same points from thise games as Blackburn did. Makes no odds to the final table when you pick your points up whether it's the first day ot the season or the last....

Most importantly, you need to find 2 decent centrebacks that want to move to Wolverhampton. This is one of the reasons that Wolves will usually always be a yo-yo team. With regards to money - Wolves are in, by a long way, the best financial state of every single premiership team. They have zero debit. In fact they put 20mil in the bank this season. Thats down to great leadership and unity from chairman to management.

Fromt the Wolves Forum
Players
Hennessey - Looks suspect on crosses today, 1 brilliant save, should have done better with the goal
Stearman - Annoyed me today with a pointless dive when on the attack. I hope he is fined for that. Looked like our weak point in the first half
Johnson - Unlucky with the goal, as it smashed Roberts in the face. Overall a solid debut and he is happy to play through the pain as well
Berra - Partly at fault for the goal, although Roberts did give him a sly push in the air as he went for the header.
Ward - Again, another solid performance at both left back and left side of midfield. Brilliant finish from 16 yards
Hunt - Tireless performance, carrying on where he left off.O'Hara - Couple of shots wide from decent positions. Always looked to go forward
Henry - Quiet game for me. Which isn't a bad thing. Couple of needless free kicks given away but if his job is just to sit back and let O'Hara set the tempo, then he wil do ok this season
Jarvis - Won the penalty and set the goal up. Decent day for Jarvis indeed
Doyle - Same old, tireless effort but a crap penalty
Fletcher - Again the work rate was immense, great finish and some good link up play with the midfield

Subs
Foley (for Stearman) - Should start next week. Excellent when he came on.

Having watched Villa today MM should have broken the bank to sign Shay. Would have been worth an extra 7 or 8 points over a season to Wolves.
