I am all for not relegating them. Relegate Bray and get Derry City to play Drogheda in the play-off.
How on earth does that make sense?

What has sense got to do with anything. I think we should play off with Galway for the league personally...

Hope Derry survive, take whatever punishment is coming their way, and come back again

No fudge Eamon .There is a Press Conference Timed for 2.30pm. Nothing should have been said about this until today ruined the last night of the season.

My big worry is that Derry will drop out of football entirely which would be criminal with their magnificent fans.

Despite all the problems this year, the league was so close to having no *'s on the league table..so close..

Mr P,

Like the unrequited lover, it won't be the IL.

It may be a year out of senior football and back to the A League for the 2011 season.

Is there a reason you'd have to take a year off?

Even if the A League application deadline is gone, I think a special case could be made for Derry applying next year, given they couldn't have applied before the deadline. It'd make no sense to penalise the club by having them out of business for a season.

Surely if Derry have applied for a Premier licence, they can be dropped down to A on the basis of it being a lower level of the 'same' licence structure, like Cobh were?

Mr A

I think jurisdictional issues along with the fact that the FAI exemptions etc would have to be sorted would complicate things.

But I agree that a way should be found to at least have a DCFC team in the A League next season.

Mr P,

Any new club is exactly as it says, "new." That being the case it will still need to register with the IFA before it could even put a case together as to why they should be granted special dispensation from them to play in a league outside of their jurisdiction.

The fact that any new team would have to start in a much lower division, the chances of any contentious games are minimal. Given how things have changed in the North and the fact that any team can now play at any venue without any major difficulties, I cannot see how any request for such special dispensation would be supported nor can I think of any reasons why it would be.

Mr A
07/11/2009, 12:27 PM
So the IFA would kill the idea of a 'new' DCFC in the LOI just for the sake of it?

That sounds mad.

But entirely plausible.

MariborKev

Mr P,

Two options

- Purchase of the Derry City FC name from the existing company. DCFC is a member club of the FAI
- If not, and we have to reform as a new name, then we could challenge on the basis of the League of Wales clubs v FAW precedent.

It would not be "just for the sake of it." It would be on the basis of no justification for doing so imo.

The purchasing of the name option is out following rule changes both at the IFA and HMRC following the Coleraine/Calver case.

I am not familiar with the League of Wales clubs v FAW precedent.

The only good thing out of all this will be supporting a team who will be playing for their shirt. And if we are defeated realising it isnt costing us 20k a week.

And if eg Dungannon Swifts or HMRC should close down Wellvan, say, next April, could the FAI simply transfer their old Licence to a new vehicle ("DCFC2010"?) mid-season and carry on as if nothing had happened?
.
No, the license dies with the holding company. Any newe company would have to apply for a new license.

Surely if Derry have applied for a Premier licence, they can be dropped down to A on the basis of it being a lower level of the 'same' licence structure, like Cobh were?

If Wellvan go bust there is no Derry City/or license. A new company would have to apply from scratch to the A league.

Does anyone know where this'll be on? I'm wondering if the BBC are pulling their usual trick of pretending Derry City don't exist so that they can give attention to David Jeffrey stubbing his toe or something.

This thread is way too long for me to read through it all, can someone briefly say why Derry are expected to be relegated? I know there's been issues with not paying players and that but sure Cork are at that too so why are Derry being relegated?

Mr A

Allegations that 'documentation' was not in order. Players contracts by the sound of it.

Ironic given the general view of the majority of IL fans of the disportionate about of coverage Derry get on the Beeb.

Certain information has been brought to the attention of the FAI apparently. Speculation suggests they've been paying players under the counter and have been found out.

24 years of playing League of Ireland football seems like justification to me.

Seemingly the submitted false documents with the license application at the beginning of the season. All will be revealed shortly though.

Absolute non-issue as long as getting back in the LoI, at whatever level, is still an option.
